Apple released a separate haptic trailer for F1 The Movie on June 11, 2025. It was designed for iPhone and played in the Apple TV app on iOS 18.4 or later, pairing the trailer’s images with timed vibrations from the phone. The special version was iPhone-exclusive; the regular trailer and the film were not.
What Apple released
The haptic trailer was a distinct promotional cut, not a haptic setting for every video and not a full-length version of the film. Apple described vibrations coordinated with onscreen action such as engine revs, acceleration, gear changes and racing over curbs. It also used changes in intensity to accompany quieter preparation and cockpit moments. Apple says the haptic timing was designed frame by frame alongside the trailer’s sound and color (Apple TV: F1 The Movie).
“Haptic” here means tactile feedback: the iPhone’s Taptic Engine produces programmed pulses as the video plays. The phone does not reproduce the literal force of a car, nor is this a theater-based 4D presentation with moving seats or other equipment.
How to try the haptic trailer
- Use an iPhone running iOS 18.4 or later, the software requirement stated in Apple’s launch-era App Store feature (Apple App Store feature).
- Open the Apple TV app and search for F1 The Movie or its haptic-trailer promotion.
- Select the haptic version if it is available. The ordinary trailer is a different video and will not provide the same timed tactile layer.
The promotion launched in 2025, and Apple’s current film page describes the experience, but that does not guarantee the original promotional tile remains in the same place—or is still prominently available—in every region or app version. If you cannot find it, the absence of a tile is not proof that your phone is incompatible.

Which devices support the special experience?
Apple presented the haptic experience as designed specifically for iPhone and identified iOS 18.4 or later. Its cited materials do not give a definitive model-by-model compatibility list, so it would be too broad to promise identical operation on every iPhone that can run that software. The perceived strength can also depend on the phone, how it is held, a case and settings.
| What you want to watch | Where it is available | Haptic layer |
|---|---|---|
| Special haptic trailer | Apple TV app on iPhone; Apple specified iOS 18.4 or later | Designed for iPhone; Apple does not publish a complete model list in the cited materials |
| Ordinary trailer | Distributed through broader channels, including Formula 1’s official video page (Formula 1 trailer) | No special iPhone haptic layer is implied |
| Full film | Apple TV and other listed supported platforms; see Apple’s current film page | The trailer’s iPhone haptics are not a feature of the full movie |
The Apple TV app is software available on multiple kinds of devices. That wider app availability should not be confused with support for the iPhone-specific haptic version. Apple’s current page says a subscription is required to stream the full movie; the launch-era trailer listing does not establish that the promotional trailer required a paid subscription. Check the app for its current access terms.

If the vibrations are missing or hard to feel
- Check that the iPhone is on iOS 18.4 or later and that you selected the haptic trailer rather than a standard trailer.
- Update the Apple TV app if an update is available, then close and reopen it if playback is not working as expected.
- Check the iPhone’s sound, haptics and accessibility settings to make sure vibration or haptic feedback has not been disabled.
- Try holding the phone and temporarily removing a thick case; a case or placing the phone on a surface can make vibrations less noticeable.
- If the promotion is missing, search for the film in the Apple TV app. Its placement may have changed since launch.
These are practical checks, not a guarantee of a particular vibration strength. Apple’s cited material does not promise that every device or configuration will feel the same.
The trailer and the film’s release timeline
Apple announced the special trailer on June 11, 2025. The standard trailer had been released earlier and was not iPhone-exclusive (Apple Original Films trailer announcement). The film began its international theatrical rollout on June 25, 2025, opened in U.S. theaters on June 27, 2025, and began streaming on Apple TV on December 12, 2025, according to Apple’s film information page.

F1 The Movie stars Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and Javier Bardem and was directed by Joseph Kosinski. Its release is relevant context for the promotion, but the haptic trailer remains a short marketing experience—not a tactile version of the feature film.

The format turns a phone feature into part of a film promotion: viewers can feel timed pulses intended to suggest the changing pace and impact of racing while watching the footage. Apple called it a “first-of-its-kind” experience, a description best treated as Apple’s characterization rather than an independently established historical ranking (Apple App Store feature).

For an iPhone owner interested in tactile media, it is a brief technology demonstration as much as a trailer. It is not a reason to buy a phone solely for the experience, and viewers without an iPhone can still watch the ordinary trailer or the film through supported channels.
