Apple’s 10-episode Cape Fear limited series premiered globally on June 5, 2026, with Amy Adams, Javier Bardem and Patrick Wilson leading the cast. Its weekly release schedule concluded July 31, 2026, and Apple now lists the series on Apple TV.
What is Apple TV’s Cape Fear about?
Anna Bowden (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) are attorneys whose lives are upended when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), a killer they helped send to prison, is released and seeks revenge. Apple describes the series as a psychological horror thriller and rates it TV-MA.
Is the series a remake of the 1991 film?
Apple describes the series as inspired by Martin Scorsese’s 1991 Cape Fear and based on both that film and the novel The Executioners. The novel also inspired the 1962 film starring Gregory Peck, so the 2026 series draws on a longer adaptation lineage rather than being presented as a direct remake of only one earlier film. Steven Spielberg produced the 1991 movie and is an executive producer on the series alongside Scorsese.
Creator and showrunner Nick Antosca told the Associated Press that he wanted “a new version that honored the classics that I love, but also is a nightmare for today.” He described the approach as a “nightmare remix,” retaining the original’s visceral energy while changing the order or context of some material. Those are Antosca’s stated intentions, not a claim that the series reproduces either film scene by scene.
