The “first look” Apple TV revealed is for Dark Matter season two, not the original season. Apple announced the new season on April 7, 2026, with ten episodes scheduled to begin August 28 and continue weekly through October 30. The sci-fi thriller adapts Blake Crouch’s novel and follows physicist Jason Dessen into a life that is not his own.
What is Apple TV+’s Dark Matter about?
Dark Matter is a science-fiction thriller based on Blake Crouch’s novel. In season one, Jason Dessen—a physicist, professor and family man in Chicago—is abducted into an alternate version of his life. He tries to return to his own reality and family while confronting the other lives he might have led. Apple describes the series as “a story about the road not taken”; that is the company’s promotional description, not a quote attributed to a specific person.

What does the season-two first look reveal?
Apple’s April 7, 2026 announcement and its July 25 trailer announcement set up a story in which the Dessen family tries to settle into a world that appears safe. In Apple’s synopsis, Jason becomes more focused on the Box, Daniela grows increasingly paranoid, and Amanda and Ryan work together to find a way home. Blair is determined to stop Leighton, who is pursuing a vision of a perfect world. This is a spoiler-light outline drawn from Apple’s official description, not an independent review.
When does Dark Matter season 2 come out?
Apple announced a ten-episode season beginning August 28, 2026, with one new episode every Friday through October 30, 2026. Those are Apple’s announced release dates; they do not independently confirm episode availability in every country or territory. Apple identifies Apple TV as the place to watch the series.
