Bono: Stories of Surrender premiered globally on Apple TV+ on May 30, 2025. It is a Bono-led documentary built around his memoir and one-man stage show—not a full-band U2 concert film—and it includes performances of U2 songs.
What is Bono: Stories of Surrender?
Directed by Andrew Dominik, the film reimagines Bono’s one-man show, drawing on his memoir Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story and the related “Stories of Surrender” theatrical tour. Apple says it revisits Bono’s life and relationships, combining his stage performance with exclusive footage from the Beacon Theatre shows and performances of U2 songs. Apple’s announcement names RadicalMedia and Plan B Entertainment as production companies.

The film’s title is Bono: Stories of Surrender. Apple also announced an abridged, updated paperback edition of the memoir, with a film-tie-in cover and a new introduction, released alongside the documentary.
Is it a U2 concert film?
No. It is centered on Bono’s solo theatrical performance and personal story, not a full-band U2 concert. U2 fans will hear him perform songs from the band’s catalogue, but the film is not presented as a conventional concert recording of U2 playing together.

When did it come out, and where can you watch it?
The documentary premiered globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, May 30, 2025. Apple’s U.S. title listing gives a runtime of 1 hour 26 minutes and categorizes it as Music and Documentary. That U.S. page displays TV-MA and 14+ labels; ratings and availability can differ by region. Check the listing for your country for current access details. Standard film or Vision Pro immersive edition?
Apple announced two separate presentations for the same release date. The standard documentary is the ordinary Apple TV viewing option; the immersive edition is specifically for Apple Vision Pro. Apple describes the immersive version as Apple Immersive Video in 8K with Spatial Audio and a 180-degree view. The Associated Press reported that this presentation places viewers onstage with Bono.

Vision Pro is not required to watch the standard documentary. The two editions are distinct viewing experiences, rather than a requirement to own the headset to see the film.
Who made the film?
Andrew Dominik directed Bono: Stories of Surrender. Apple lists Jon Kamen, Dave Sirulnick, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner among the producers, with RadicalMedia and Plan B Entertainment as production companies. Apple’s film announcement also describes the Beacon Theatre footage and U2 performances included in the documentary.
