Apple TV+ ordered The Jet, a docuseries about Pepsi’s 1990s Pepsi Stuff promotion and the Harrier jet commercial that led John Leonard to try to claim the aircraft, according to a report published March 12, 2021. That announcement does not establish that the series was completed or released. It is separate from Netflix’s four-episode 2022 documentary Pepsi, Where’s My Jet?.
What is The Jet about?
The announced Apple TV+ project was described as a series about Pepsi’s “Drink Pepsi, Get Stuff” campaign and the dispute that followed Leonard’s attempt to claim a Harrier jet shown in a commercial. AppleInsider reported the order on March 12, 2021, citing Deadline, and named James Lee Hernandez and Brian Lazarte as directors and executive producers. Read the contemporaneous announcement report.
What happened with the Pepsi Harrier jet?
Pepsi Stuff and the commercial
Pepsi Stuff let customers collect Pepsi Points from specially marked Pepsi or Diet Pepsi packages and redeem them for Pepsi-branded merchandise. The court record describes a Pacific Northwest test running from October 1995 through March 1996. In a commercial, a Harrier jet appeared with a stated price of seven million Pepsi Points. Seattle resident John Leonard argued that the commercial was an offer and tried to claim the jet.
The Harrier did not appear in Pepsi’s promotion catalog or order form. Pepsi argued that its appearance was a joke. The court concluded that the commercial was an advertisement, not an enforceable offer. In its August 5, 1999 opinion, Judge Kimba M. Wood wrote: “The Court finds, in sum, that the Harrier Jet commercial was merely an advertisement.” The district court granted PepsiCo summary judgment, and the Second Circuit affirmed that judgment on April 17, 2000. Is The Jet the same as Netflix’s Pepsi, Where’s My Jet??
No. They are separate projects. Apple TV+ was reported to have ordered The Jet in 2021; the available announcement report does not confirm a release. Netflix’s Pepsi, Where’s My Jet? is a distinct documentary about the campaign and Leonard’s attempt to claim the jet. Netflix lists it as a four-episode series from 2022. Netflix Media Center: series description; Netflix title page.
| Project | Platform | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| The Jet | Apple TV+ | Ordered, according to a March 12, 2021 secondary report; release status is not established. |
| Pepsi, Where’s My Jet? | Netflix | Four episodes; listed as a 2022 release. |
Can you watch Apple’s The Jet now?
Its current status and availability are unconfirmed. The 2021 report documents an order, but it does not show that the series was later released, renamed, or cancelled. No current official Apple listing is established here, so the Netflix documentary is the only one of these two projects with a confirmed release in the cited sources.
