Apple and Amazon announced in October 2024 that U.S. customers would be able to subscribe to Apple TV+ as a paid add-on through Prime Video Channels. The announced price was $9.99 a month, but that was the price at announcement—not a verified current Amazon price. The deal made Apple programming available inside Prime Video; it did not include the service with Prime membership or establish a discounted bundle. Tech Times reported the announcement and its original terms.
What the Amazon–Apple deal is
This is a distribution and billing arrangement: customers can buy Apple’s streaming subscription through Prime Video Channels and watch the included programming in the Prime Video interface. The subscription costs extra. It is not part of standard Prime membership, and the announcement did not describe a discount for combining Prime Video and Apple TV+.
Amazon is selling access to Apple’s service; the deal does not mean Amazon acquired Apple’s programming or that Apple’s service became an Amazon-owned product. For subscribers, the practical change is an additional way to find, pay for, and watch Apple programming—not a merger of the two services.
When it was announced, and what is known about availability
The companies’ agreement was announced in October 2024. At the time, Apple TV+ was expected to arrive on Prime Video Channels “later that month,” but the announcement coverage did not give an exact launch day. The announced market was the United States; it did not establish a worldwide rollout.

Price: the 2024 figure is not a current Amazon quote
| Subscription route | Price information | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV+ through Prime Video Channels | $9.99 per month | Price announced in October 2024; current Amazon checkout price is not established here. |
| Apple direct, United States | $12.99 per month after a seven-day trial | Price shown on Apple’s U.S. subscription page, observed in August 2026; offers can change. |
| Prime membership or Prime Video | Not stated | Separate from the Apple add-on; check Amazon for the current plan and price for your account. |
At announcement, the $9.99 Prime Video add-on matched Apple’s standalone monthly price at that time. Apple’s current U.S. page now lists Apple TV at $12.99 a month after a seven-day trial. That comparison does not establish that Amazon is now cheaper: its current channel price and any trial must be confirmed on Amazon’s Prime Video storefront. Apple’s current offer is listed at Apple’s U.S. subscription page.

What the subscription gives you
The add-on is for Apple’s subscription programming, including Apple Originals and films. Examples reported around the announcement included Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Loot, Slow Horses, and Pachinko. These are examples, not a permanent or complete catalog; availability can change.
Sports are also subject to rights, season, and territory limits. Apple’s current U.S. subscription page describes Apple Originals, Friday Night Baseball, and a 2026 offering that includes Major League Soccer and Formula 1, with geographic qualifications. That does not mean every event is available in every country or that the sports lineup will remain unchanged. See Apple’s current offer and content terms.

A subscription does not automatically include everything visible in the Apple TV app. Apple distinguishes subscription programming from third-party channels and titles that are available to rent or buy. The Prime Video deal should therefore be understood as access to Apple’s subscription service, not a pass for all content within Apple’s app.
Prime Video add-on or direct Apple subscription?
| Consideration | Prime Video Channels | Direct Apple subscription |
|---|---|---|
| Where you watch | Apple programming is presented within Prime Video, according to the deal’s announced model. | Apple’s subscription is accessed through Apple’s service and supported viewing platforms. |
| Billing | Subscription is purchased through Amazon; manage it through the relevant Amazon account controls. | Subscription is billed through Apple. |
| Price | Current price not established; check Amazon’s checkout. | $12.99/month after a seven-day trial on Apple’s U.S. page observed in August 2026. |
| Family sharing and bundles | Do not assume the Amazon subscription carries Apple-specific sharing or bundle benefits. | Apple says its subscription can be shared with up to five family members and may be included in Apple One or the Apple Music Student Plan. |
| Trial | The 2024 announcement did not establish an Amazon trial; verify any offer at checkout. | Apple’s U.S. page lists a seven-day trial; eligibility and terms apply. |
The Prime Video route may suit viewers who already use that app and prefer Amazon billing. Direct billing may fit Apple One subscribers, households that rely on Apple’s sharing arrangements, or viewers who want to keep the subscription in Apple’s account ecosystem. The choice depends on the live Amazon price and on which account features matter to you—not just the app you use most.

Apple currently lists Android among supported platforms, so Prime Video is an additional route for Android viewers rather than a basis to assume Apple’s service is unavailable directly on Android. Supported devices and features can change; consult Apple’s platform information.

If you already subscribe directly to Apple—or receive access through Apple One, a student plan, family sharing, or a device offer—check your existing subscription before signing up through Amazon. The announcement does not establish that adding the channel migrates, merges, or cancels an existing Apple subscription. Starting a second subscription could mean paying twice.

Also confirm the billing account and cancellation route shown at signup. An Amazon-billed channel should be managed through Amazon’s subscription controls, while an Apple-billed subscription is managed through Apple. Do not assume trial conversion dates, refunds, access after cancellation, or the effect of ending Prime membership without checking the applicable terms.
What has changed since the announcement
The original story was about a planned U.S. channel launch in October 2024, not a new deal announced in 2026. Apple’s current U.S. pages prominently use the name Apple TV and list a $12.99 monthly direct subscription after a seven-day trial. Those current Apple terms do not establish the present Prime Video channel price, trial, or account availability.
For a current decision, look for Apple TV or Apple TV+ in the Channels or subscriptions area of your U.S. Prime Video account and review the price and terms displayed before confirming. Menu names can differ by device and app version. If the channel is not visible, check the account’s marketplace and Amazon’s current help information rather than assuming the 2024 announcement guarantees availability on that account.
Why the deal matters
For Apple
Prime Video puts Apple programming in front of viewers already using a large aggregation app and gives them another way to subscribe. In contemporaneous coverage, Apple executive Eddy Cue framed the effort as a way to reach more viewers; that is Apple’s stated rationale, not proof of the deal’s eventual audience or commercial results. Tech Times’ announcement coverage reported that rationale.

Adding Apple gives Prime Video another premium subscription to present and sell without Amazon having to own the programming. It fits the channel-store model: viewers can discover outside services from within Prime Video and, where offered, handle those subscriptions through Amazon.
Quick Recap
For viewers
- Convenience: one interface and an Amazon billing relationship may be useful if Prime Video is already central to your viewing.
- Trade-off: the add-on is another recurring charge, and the Prime Video experience should not be presumed identical to Apple’s native app or account benefits.
- Choice: compare the actual checkout terms, your existing subscriptions, and the Apple features you use before choosing a billing route.
