Apple News+ is Apple’s paid news and magazine service. In the United States, it costs $12.99 per month after a one-month free trial and includes access to more than 500 participating magazines, newspapers, and digital publishers, alongside puzzles, selected narrated audio stories, recipes, sports coverage, and offline reading. It is an excellent breadth-first subscription for magazine readers, families, puzzle fans, and Apple One users—but it is not a guaranteed replacement for a direct subscription to one newspaper.
This guide covers the U.S. service and prices. Availability, catalogues, features, and pricing vary by country or region.
What is Apple News+?
Apple News+ is the paid tier inside Apple’s free News app. The free version of Apple News provides a curated and personalized news feed, while News+ adds subscription content from participating publishers, cover-to-cover magazine issues, selected audio stories, puzzles, recipes, and downloadable content.
A News+ subscription does not unlock every article from every publisher. Apple’s agreements determine which articles, issues, editions, and features are available. The catalogue also varies by region and can change over time.

Apple News+ is designed primarily for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, with related access and audio features available through products such as CarPlay, HomePod, and Apple Watch. Exact capabilities depend on the device, software version, and region.
Check Apple’s media-services availability page before subscribing if you live outside the United States.
How much does Apple News+ cost?
Apple’s main U.S. Apple News+ page lists the service at $12.99 per month after a one-month free trial for eligible new subscribers. The price signal and trial information were checked against Apple’s page on August 18, 2026; confirm the amount shown in your Apple Account before subscribing.
- Monthly price: $12.99 in the United States, before any applicable tax.
- Simple annual calculation: $155.88 if paid for 12 months at the monthly rate.
- Standard trial: One month, subject to Apple’s eligibility rules.
- New-device promotion: Apple advertises three months free with an eligible new iPhone, iPad, or Mac, subject to the offer page and official terms.
Taxes, billing rules, eligibility, and promotional availability can vary. A free trial or device promotion normally changes to paid billing unless it is canceled according to Apple’s terms.

Apple News+ is included with Apple One Premier. However, Apple’s pages currently show conflicting U.S. prices: the main Apple News+ page lists $39.95 per month, while a separate Apple subscription page displays $37.95 per month. Do not rely on either figure without checking the live checkout screen. The price shown in your Apple Account is the one to use before subscribing.
Apple One Premier makes sense when you already want several of its other services. It is poor value if you are buying the bundle only for News+.
What does Family Sharing do to the price?
Apple News+ can be shared with up to five additional family members, giving six people access in total. At $12.99 per month, that works out to approximately $2.17 per person per month for six people, or $4.33 per person per month for three people. These are simple calculations before tax.
What do you get with Apple News+?
Magazines
Magazines are Apple News+’s clearest strength. Participating titles provide cover-to-cover issues across areas such as technology, science, food, politics, fashion, travel, cars, health, hobbies, home, and culture.
Examples Apple shows include TIME, The New Yorker, WIRED, National Geographic, Vanity Fair, People, Bon Appétit, Car and Driver, GQ, Oprah Daily, The Atlantic, and New York Magazine. These examples are not a permanent worldwide list. Use Apple’s live publication directory to check the titles available in your country.

Issue availability and back catalogues can change. Do not assume that every historic issue remains available indefinitely.
Newspapers and digital publishers
Apple News+ includes participating local, national, and international newspapers and digital publishers. Examples shown by Apple include The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Athletic, The Telegraph, Los Angeles Times, Toronto Star, The Australian, The Globe and Mail, Le Monde, Haaretz, and The Times and The Sunday Times.
Do not read “included” as “every article and every publisher product is included.” A newspaper may provide selected premium stories, a News+ edition, or a broad but incomplete selection rather than the full website. Live blogs, newsletters, archives, podcasts, videos, subscriber communities, special sections, events, and publisher-app features may remain outside News+.

Audio stories
Apple News+ includes selected articles adapted into professionally narrated audio stories. You can find them in the News app and through the Apple News+ Narrated podcast destination. Apple says News+ audio can also be downloaded for offline listening.
Audio is not available for every article. It is useful for commuting, exercise, accessibility, or screen-free listening, but it should not be confused with automatic read-aloud access to the entire catalogue.
- Apple News+ audio stories: selected professionally narrated News+ articles.
- Apple News Today: Apple’s separate news briefing, available more broadly.
- In Conversation: interviews with journalists.
- Apple News+ Narrated: a podcast destination for narrated News+ stories.
Availability and controls can differ by platform and region.
Puzzles
News+ includes daily full-size crosswords, Crossword Mini puzzles, and an archive of past puzzles. Apple also introduced the Emoji Game in the United States and Canada. Puzzle features can change as Apple adds formats or adjusts regional availability.
Puzzles alone may not justify $12.99 per month for most people. They become more compelling when combined with magazines, newspaper reading, or Family Sharing.

Apple News+ Food
Apple News+ Food offers more than 100,000 recipes from 60 publications, according to Apple. Apple lists availability in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and English-speaking Canada.
The feature is useful for searching and browsing recipes from participating food publications alongside the broader News+ catalogue. Do not assume that every recipe or every Food control is available in every country or app version.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

News+ includes sports journalism and information from participating publications, including The Athletic and Sports Illustrated. Apple also describes scores, schedules, highlights, and coverage of professional and college teams and leagues.
This is a news and information feature—not a live-game streaming package. Readers seeking live broadcasts need a different service.
Local news
Local coverage can include politics, sports, dining, culture, business, real estate, and other regional subjects. Apple’s January 2026 update said Apple News had more than 150 local newspapers and news feeds across all 50 U.S. states, seven Canadian markets, and London.
That figure describes Apple News overall, not necessarily premium News+ content alone. The local publications and access level available to you depend on your region.

Apple News+ publication list: how to check before subscribing
Apple advertises more than 500 participating publications, but the number is less important than whether the titles you actually read are available in your region and at the depth you need.
- Open Apple’s publication directory.
- Search for your specific magazine or newspaper rather than relying on a general category.
- Check the title inside the News app as well; the available edition or article access may differ by region.
- Compare the result with the publisher’s direct subscription if you need its complete website, archive, newsletters, app, or subscriber community.
A static list of popular titles will age quickly. Apple’s live directory is the better reference.
Apple News+ versus a direct newspaper subscription
| Apple News+ | Direct publisher subscription |
|---|---|
| Broad access across many participating publishers | Usually deeper access to one publisher’s product |
| May include selected articles or a News+ edition | More likely to include the complete website and direct apps |
| Includes magazines, puzzles, recipes, and selected audio | Usually focused on that publisher’s own content and benefits |
| Family Sharing is available | Sharing rules depend on the publisher |
| Magazine issues and some audio can be downloaded | Offline features depend on the publisher’s app |
| Convenient single Apple subscription | May include newsletters, archives, events, communities, and special sections unavailable through News+ |
The central trade-off is breadth versus depth. News+ is broader: many titles and formats in one app. A direct subscription is often deeper: the publisher’s complete product and relationship with its readers.

Find and follow publications
Use the News app’s search and News+ sections to locate magazines, newspapers, and digital publishers. Following a title helps surface its stories and issues in your News experience, but it does not mean that every article from that publisher is automatically included.
Download magazines for offline reading
- Open the News app.
- Find a magazine or issue in News+.
- Select the issue’s download control.
- Open it later from the News+ library or downloaded area.
Button names and locations may vary by app version. Downloaded issues use device storage. Not every article necessarily has an offline-download option, and downloading does not mean you own the issue permanently. Access may change after cancellation or if a publication leaves the service.
Listen offline
Selected News+ audio stories, Apple News Today, and In Conversation can be downloaded for offline listening according to Apple’s service description. The availability of a download control depends on the individual item and platform.
Use puzzles and recipes
Open the relevant News+ area to browse puzzles or Food content. The exact controls for recipe searching, saving, organizing, or browsing by category may vary by current app version and region. Apple News+ Food is limited to the markets Apple identifies, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and English-speaking Canada.
How Family Sharing works
Apple News+ supports up to six people total: the subscriber plus five additional family members. Each person receives a separate, personalized News experience through Apple’s Family Sharing group.
If you join a family group that already provides News+, do not assume an existing individual subscription has immediately stopped billing. Check Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. Leaving the family group or being removed from it changes access.
Apple One Premier also uses Family Sharing for its included services.

How to cancel Apple News+
On iPhone, Apple’s current path is:
- Open the News app.
- Tap Following.
- Scroll down and tap Subscriptions under Manage.
- Select Apple News+ and tap Cancel Subscription.
- Follow the onscreen instructions and confirm the renewal date in your Apple Account.
If News+ is part of Apple One Premier, manage the bundle through Apple’s subscription settings. Canceling Apple One Premier affects the other services in that bundle, not just News+.
Promotional offers can have separate eligibility and cancellation rules. Review Apple’s offer terms and cancel before paid billing begins if you do not want to continue.
Important limitations
Regional availability
Apple News, News+, puzzles, audio features, Apple News+ Food, and Apple One are not available in every country or region. Catalogues and feature sets can differ substantially by geography. U.S. prices and examples in this guide should not be treated as worldwide terms.
It is not necessarily ad-free
News+ access does not guarantee an advertising-free experience. Magazine issues and other publisher material may retain advertising that appears in the publication.
Content changes
Titles, editions, issue availability, regional access, and feature lists can change. A publication in Apple’s directory today may offer different content later.
Downloads are access, not ownership
Offline issues and audio are provided for use within the service. They are not permanent purchases, and continued access is not guaranteed after cancellation or a catalogue change.
Is Apple News+ worth it?
It is a strong fit for:
- Readers who regularly use several participating magazines.
- Households that can share the subscription through Family Sharing.
- People who want magazines and some newspaper content in one Apple app.
- Puzzle fans who also value magazines or news.
- Travelers who want downloadable magazine issues.
- Readers who use narrated articles.
- Apple One Premier subscribers already using the bundle’s other services.
- Users in supported regions who will use Apple News+ Food.
It is a weak fit for:
- Someone who wants only one newspaper’s complete website and archive.
- Readers whose preferred publication is absent or only partially available.
- People seeking live sports broadcasts.
- Users outside supported regions.
- Readers who prefer each publisher’s own app and interface.
- Anyone who will not use magazines, puzzles, audio, recipes, or family sharing.
- Readers expecting all content to be ad-free.
A practical value test
Before subscribing, write down the titles and features you would actually use in a typical month. Then:
- Check each title in Apple’s live publication directory and the News app.
- Separate complete access from selected articles or editions.
- Compare $12.99 per month with the direct subscriptions you would genuinely cancel.
- Include the value of puzzles, recipes, audio, offline reading, and Family Sharing only if you will use them.
- Check the trial or promotional renewal date.
If you mainly want one newspaper, a direct subscription may provide more useful access. If you want a rotating selection of magazines, newspapers, puzzles, recipes, and audio, Apple News+ is much more compelling.
