Anne Burrell’s March 2025 update was about taking an improv class—not announcing a new career. She said she was enjoying “Improv for Actors” at Second City New York and learning to come out of her shell. Burrell died on June 17, 2025, at age 55, so the class is a past detail, not a current career prospect.
What Anne Burrell said about a possible new career
In a March 2025 Instagram post, Burrell wrote, “I know I have been kinda quiet of late. BUT I am taking ‘Improv for Actors’ at @secondcitynyc!!!” She added: “Can I just say it is SO much fun and I am learning so SO much!!! It really helps me get out of my shell… as if I needed that!!” Us Weekly reproduced the post in its report.
Her words establish that she was studying improv and enjoying the class. They do not establish that she planned to become an actor or leave her work as a chef and television personality. Calling it a “possible new career” goes beyond what she said.
What she said about missing Worst Cooks in America
Burrell was absent from the season that aired in January 2025. In a reported exchange with a fan who asked why she was not on the show, she replied, “Uuuuughhh…I know. And I don’t know.” She also said she missed the show. Those remarks did not explain her absence, so they do not establish whether she left by choice, was dismissed, or was excluded for contractual reasons.

Her connection to the show
The Associated Press reported that Worst Cooks in America premiered in 2010 and that Burrell became one of its recurring mentors. She coached contestants through hundreds of episodes and appeared across 27 seasons; her last appearance was in 2024, according to the AP. The January 2025 absence was therefore a change from a long-running role, but the reason remained unexplained in the reported exchange.
Burrell’s death and Food Network’s tribute
Burrell died on June 17, 2025, at age 55. A Washington Post report published July 24, 2025, citing the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner, said her death was ruled a suicide. That later information is essential context: the improv post was a personal update from months before her death, not a current announcement about what she might do next.
In a statement quoted by the Associated Press, Food Network said: “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring.”

Food Network biographical material lists Burrell’s cookbook Own Your Kitchen: Recipes to Inspire and Empower. Her improv class and cookbook represent different parts of her life; the class post itself did not signal a move away from cooking.
