On November 5, 2021, Annapurna announced that Nathan Gary, then president of Annapurna Interactive, would become president of the company. The role covered film, television, theater, and interactive. As Gary moved into the company-wide position, Deborah Mars and Nathan Vella were named co-heads of Annapurna Interactive.
What Annapurna announced
CEO Megan Ellison announced Gary’s promotion on November 5, 2021. He had led Annapurna Interactive and was described as a co-founder of the division. In his new role, he would oversee Annapurna’s film, television, theater, and interactive divisions and join the executive team with Ellison, chief content officer Sue Naegle, and president of legal and business affairs Chris Corabi. TheWrap reported the appointment and leadership structure; Screen Daily and GamesBeat also reported the move that day.
How Interactive leadership changed
Gary’s transition came with a change in the leadership of Annapurna Interactive: Deborah Mars and Nathan Vella were named co-heads of the division. This separated the company-wide president role from day-to-day leadership of the interactive arm, according to TheWrap’s announcement coverage.
Annapurna Interactive had been co-founded in 2016, according to Screen Daily. Its reported output included BAFTA best game winners What Remains of Edith Finch and Outer Wilds.

Why the appointment fit Annapurna’s structure
Annapurna describes itself as a multi-sector entertainment company founded by Megan Ellison in 2011, with work spanning film production, video games, television production, distribution, marketing, and finance. The company’s overview provides that broader context for a president whose announced remit crossed several divisions.
Ellison said Gary had helped build Interactive “from the ground up,” citing his leadership and ability to identify and foster creative voices. She also said she valued his “vision, instincts and acumen” as the company continued across film, television, theatre, and interactive. Gary said he was proud of what the Interactive team had accomplished and looked forward to collaborating across Annapurna to bring audiences stories and entertainment.
