Masamune-kun’s Revenge is the closest supported match if you want an anime built around a rejection, hurt feelings and the possibility of reconciliation. But the childhood incident at its center is more complicated than a straightforward case of a girl rejecting a boy and later chasing him: mistaken identity and unresolved feelings shape what happened.
What “regrets rejecting him” can mean
That phrase covers several different romance setups, and they are not interchangeable:
- A genuine refusal followed by changed feelings: she clearly turns him down, then later wishes she had chosen differently.
- A misunderstanding mistaken for rejection: he believes she rejected him, but later information changes how the incident looks.
- Remorse for causing hurt: she regrets the pain she caused, which is not necessarily the same as regretting her romantic choice.
- A payoff beyond the anime: the regret or reconciliation may be developed in source material the adaptation does not reach.
For this search, it is useful to ask two questions about each recommendation: how literal the rejection is, and whether the anime itself shows the regret or reconciliation.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge: the closest fit
Why it fits
As a child, Masamune was close to Aki. He came to believe that she cruelly rejected him and gave him a hurtful nickname. Years later, in high school, he sets out to make her fall in love with him so he can reject her in return. That revenge premise puts a perceived rejection and its emotional fallout at the center of the story. Plot summary

Why the premise is more complicated than the trope label
Later revelations complicate who was responsible for the childhood incident and what it meant. Yoshino had impersonated Aki during the episode and regrets the harm caused; Aki’s feelings and the old misunderstanding are also clarified. The story moves toward Masamune and Aki affirming their feelings, so it is best described as a rejection-and-misunderstanding arc with regret and reconciliation—not a simple “she turns him down, then chases him” plot. Does the anime show the payoff?
The available plot summary describes later developments, but does not establish exactly where the anime adaptation ends in relation to them. If seeing the full regret-and-reconciliation arc on screen is essential, check the adaptation endpoint before starting; do not assume that every later development in the story appears in the anime.

ORESUKI is adjacent, not a verified exact match
ORESUKI is a school romantic comedy with romantic complications, but its official YTV introduction does not substantiate the specific rejection-and-regret setup in this title. It says Joro is asked out by two girls, then learns they want his advice about liking someone else, while Pansy watches him. That supports recommending it for a different kind of romantic entanglement, not as a confirmed story about a girl rejecting the protagonist and later regretting it. How to choose
- Choose Masamune-kun’s Revenge for a romance driven by a perceived childhood rejection, revenge, later clarification and movement toward reconciliation.
- Keep the distinction between remorse for causing pain and regret about a romantic decision in mind: the story’s revelations do not reduce neatly to a single rejection trope.
- Treat anime and source-material payoffs separately. The cited plot summary covers later story developments, but does not establish which of them the anime adapts.
- Consider ORESUKI if you want school-rom-com complications, but not if you require a substantiated rejection-then-regret arc.
