2025 has passed, so this is a retrospective guide to selected animated releases in the U.S. market—not a list of upcoming films. It covers theatrical and streaming titles identified in studio schedules and Associated Press seasonal guides; release dates and formats can differ by country, and this is not a complete global list.
Selected animated movies released in 2025
The entries below are representative, source-backed examples. They show how the year’s slate mixed theatrical releases with films arriving on streaming services.

How to interpret 2025 release dates
A release date is meaningful only alongside its market and format. A U.S. theatrical opening, a streaming debut, a festival screening, and a local release in another country are not interchangeable. The selected examples above use the U.S.-oriented studio and AP schedules cited for them; they should not be read as worldwide dates or as an exhaustive annual calendar. International release schedules can differ by territory and release type. Movie Insider’s 2025 animation listings illustrate the range of dates and markets, but individual dates should be checked against the relevant studio or distributor.
What the U.K. box-office figures do—and don’t—show
The Film Distributors’ Association’s 2025 yearbook reports that animated features earned £232.5 million at the U.K. box office across 71 new releases in 2024. The same yearbook reports £195.9 million across 60 new titles in 2023. These are U.K. theatrical figures for those years, not worldwide results or totals for films released in 2025. #1 Best Overall
Choosing what to watch
- For a theatrical outing: consider titles identified as theatrical releases, such as Elio, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, Zootopia 2, and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.
- For streaming: the cited examples include Netflix releases KPop Demon Hunters and In Your Dreams. Whether either remains available depends on the service’s current catalog and your region.
- For a franchise connection: Zootopia 2, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants extend established properties; Elio and KPop Demon Hunters offer different premises.
This guide does not rank the films: the cited schedules and descriptions establish release context, not comparative quality.
