Angra announced a sabbatical in September 2024 after more than 11 years of intensive activity, planning to mark the 20th anniversary of its 2004 album Temple of Shadows with a concert tour. The tour’s final date was August 3, 2025, in São Paulo, according to promoter Top Link Music. Angra’s official schedule listed 2026 performances when checked on October 7, 2026, so the 2024 hiatus announcement should not be read as proof the band remains inactive.
Why did Angra announce a hiatus?
Angra’s September 2024 statement described the planned pause as a sabbatical after more than 11 years of composing, recording, and performing in cities and countries around the world. The band said its members would use the break to pursue personal and professional projects. The statement did not give a date for returning.
At the time, Angra planned a European tour in October and November, followed by its “Interlude” tour from late 2024 through March 2025. The latter was intended to celebrate 20 years of Temple of Shadows and include highlights from across the band’s career. SuperFM reproduced the band’s September 9, 2024 statement and initial plans.
When did the Temple of Shadows anniversary tour end?
The original plan projected the anniversary run through March 2025, but the schedule was extended. A February 2025 announcement described a final leg that included Japan and Brazil, with the tour set to conclude in São Paulo on August 3. ONSTAGE reported the extension on February 5, 2025.

Top Link Music listed 17 final Brazilian dates from July 4 to August 3, 2025, and identified the São Paulo concert as the closing date. The promoter’s tour page is the source for that final run.
Did Angra play Temple of Shadows in full?
Yes. Top Link Music described the anniversary show as presenting Temple of Shadows in full alongside songs from other periods of Angra’s career. Its published tour setlist includes “Faithless Sanctuary,” “Acid Rain,” “Spread Your Fire,” “The Shadow Hunter,” “Late Redemption,” “Rebirth,” and “Carry On / Nova Era.” That is the promoter’s published setlist; it does not establish that every night had an identical performance.

Is Angra still on hiatus?
The 2024 announcement did not establish a planned return date, and the tour’s completion in 2025 does not by itself establish when a sabbatical formally ended. Angra’s official schedule listed performances in 2026, including events in Brazil, Paris, Bangkok, Taipei, Shanghai, and Japan, when checked on October 7, 2026. In its 2024 statement, Angra said: “Após mais de 11 anos de intensa dedicação, compondo, gravando e nos apresentando em várias cidades e países ao redor do mundo, sentimos que é hora de parar e recarregar nossas energias.” The statement was attributed collectively to the band, not to a named member.
