A Coldplay concert’s kiss-cam moment involving Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and company executive Kristin Cabot went viral in July 2025, prompting Astronomer to investigate, place Byron on leave and accept his resignation. Cabot resigned later. The clip shows an embrace and a startled reaction; it does not, by itself, verify the private relationship allegation that helped propel the story.
What happened at the Coldplay concert?
On July 16, 2025, Coldplay played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. During the crowd-screen segment, the camera showed Byron and Cabot embracing. They quickly moved out of view. Lead singer Chris Martin joked, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
That remark and the pair’s reaction became part of a clip that circulated on TikTok and other platforms. The footage establishes what appeared on the venue screen, not whether the allegation implied by the joke was true. ABC News Australia reported that the original TikTok video by @Instaagrace had more than 74 million views by Saturday afternoon, July 19, 2025; that dated count did not include views of reposts elsewhere. What did Astronomer say, and what happened to its leaders?
Astronomer’s response developed over several days. The company said it had opened a formal board investigation, placed Byron on leave and appointed co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy as interim CEO. On July 19, Astronomer announced that Byron had tendered his resignation and that the board had accepted it while beginning a successor search. The company said leaders were expected to set standards for conduct and accountability.

In a statement reported by the Associated Press, Astronomer said: “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.” Associated Press coverage of Astronomer’s response.
On July 25, Astronomer confirmed that Cabot had also resigned. DeJoy remained the interim CEO as the company planned a search for a successor. His appointment and the resignation announcements were company actions; they do not independently settle claims about private conduct.

How did other businesses and organizations react?
The viral moment became material for public-facing organizations, but not every reference amounted to an official campaign. TheWrap reported that ESPN SportsCenter anchors performed a reference to the clip and that sports teams used Coldplay-themed kiss-cam segments at later games. These were entertainment and audience-engagement responses to a widely recognized moment. TheWrap’s coverage of media and sports references.
Astronomer’s own later response had a different purpose. On July 28, the company released a promotional video featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, made with Ryan Reynolds’s Maximum Effort. The video thanked viewers for their interest and redirected attention toward Astronomer’s data workflow automation work. Euronews reported Maximum Effort’s involvement and DeJoy’s thanks to the team. It was a communications and promotional choice, not evidence that the controversy carried no business cost. Euronews on Astronomer’s Paltrow video.

DeJoy described the attention in an interview with CBS News: “The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name.” CBS News interview with interim CEO Pete DeJoy.
How large was the attention?
The reported figures capture different kinds of attention and should not be treated as current totals. ABC News Australia’s July 19 view count concerned one TikTok post and excluded reposts. Separately, TechCrunch cited Axios reporting based on Muck Rack data: in the preceding 24 hours, there were 22,000 articles about Astronomer and 9,000 about Andy Byron. Those figures describe a short news cycle, not a lasting measure of the company’s reach or the total number of people who saw the story. TechCrunch’s account of the Muck Rack figures.

Why do verified statements matter in a viral story?
Fabricated apology statements attributed to Byron circulated online. ABC reported that Astronomer clarified he had not issued a statement; viral screenshots and impersonation accounts should not be treated as authentic comments from him. The confirmed company announcements are distinct from claims or quotations circulated without verification. ABC News Australia on the false statements.
The Washington Post reported that social-media users identified people in the clip and shared personal details. NYU Stern clinical associate professor Alison Taylor told the Associated Press, “They probably would have got away with it if they hadn’t reacted.” That is Taylor’s observation about the clip’s visibility, not proof of the allegation. Elizabeth Parks, president and chief marketing officer of Parks Associates, told the Post that “this particular incident will certainly create new awareness for people in public spaces.” The Post also quoted University of Texas at Austin journalism professor Mary Angela Bock on identification and social-media tracking. The privacy concerns and commentary about online identification belong to the broader public reaction; they should not be confused with verified details about the people’s private lives.
