If you have seen Rogue One, you already know the broad destination for Cassian Andor: he becomes the Rebel operative audiences meet in the film. That foreknowledge does not make Andor pointless. The series makes the distance between that fact and its final scene the story—showing the choices, alliances and losses that give Cassian’s transformation weight.
What Rogue One has already revealed
Andor is a prequel to Rogue One, and the series’ second and final season leads directly into the film. StarWars.com describes Cassian at the end of the series as preparing to become the leader familiar from Rogue One; The Walt Disney Company also identifies the show as a prequel. Those facts spoil an important part of the destination: Cassian will become a central figure in the Rebellion.
But knowing where a character ends up is not the same as knowing how he gets there. Rogue One does not show the full process that changes Cassian from a wary survivor into someone willing to commit himself to a cause. That is the territory Andor explores.
Why the journey can matter more than the surprise
A conventional twist depends on withholding what happens next. Andor works differently for viewers who know the film: much of the broad outcome is visible, so suspense shifts toward decisions and consequences. What will Cassian risk? Which alliances will hold? What does the emerging rebellion demand of people who take part in it?

The audience can recognize the direction of events while still watching characters make choices whose costs are not settled in advance. Knowing Cassian’s later role can make the gradual change more legible: the question is less whether he reaches the Rebellion than what it takes for him to belong to it.
That approach does not mean foreknowledge improves every story, or that every viewer will experience the series the same way. It means Andor has another source of tension besides surprise: the unfolding transformation and the human price attached to it.

How the known ending shapes Season 2
Season 2’s structure is built around the approach to Rogue One. In an interview published by The Walt Disney Company, creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy said: “It’s having the ending, it’s having the structure, it’s having the boundaries of Season 2 and the leadup to Rogue One that make it possible for the show to be good.” His comment frames the film’s established endpoint not simply as a limit, but as a boundary that can give the series shape.
The result is a story with a defined horizon. The audience can pay attention to the conditions that make the coming conflict possible: the formation of a resistance, the decisions that bind people to it, and what they give up along the way. The Associated Press, covering the approaching finale in May 2025, also highlighted the hardships Cassian experiences, a reminder that the route to the film is not an effortless march toward a familiar role.

The finale offers more than a handoff
The last image of Andor can be read as a bridge into the film, but it also gives the series a thematic ending of its own. In a May 14, 2025, Television Academy interview, Gilroy discussed his conception of that final image and said hope was what he wanted audiences to take away as the prequel concluded. That is his stated intention, not the only possible interpretation of the scene.
Seen in that light, continuity is only part of the finale’s purpose. The ending points toward Rogue One, while also leaving viewers with an idea about what the journey has meant. The film supplies the broad future; the series adds the lived choices and emotional stakes that make that future more than a piece of franchise chronology.

What to watch after Andor
Rogue One is the natural next watch: it follows directly from the events Andor leads toward and shows Cassian in the role the series has been building. The viewing order does not erase the prequel’s tension. Instead, it lets the film serve as the continuation of a journey whose costs and origins are now clearer.
