For season 3, And Just Like That… continues its characters’ lives rather than resetting them. Showrunner Michael Patrick King said the season would focus on relationships and new directions, with Carrie writing a book and bringing back her voiceover as its clearest creative shift.
What direction did Michael Patrick King set for season 3?
In a May 26, 2025 interview with TV Insider, King called the season “Fun, summery, sexy, and aspirational.” He described it as a continuation of the characters’ stories, not a fresh start: “It’s not starting over. It’s continuing.”

King said the season begins five weeks after the events of season 2. That is the fictional timeline he described; the two-year gap was between seasons’ release, not the amount of time that passes in the story. His broader point was that people in their 50s keep growing and finding new directions.
In a Harper’s Bazaar interview, King said the creative team wanted to explore relationships—new, familiar and possible—and evoke “summer in the city.”

Are Carrie’s voiceovers back?
Yes. King told TV Insider that Carrie writes a book in season 3 and that the show brings back her voiceover. He linked the narration to her new chapter as a writer, making the internal monologue a storytelling choice connected to what Carrie is doing.
At the season premiere, Sarah Jessica Parker told the Associated Press, “We’ve always loved the voiceover,” calling its rhythm “part of the DNA.” King described its role in the season’s writing; Parker spoke to the cast and creative team’s affection for the device.

What did King say about Carrie and Aidan?
Carrie and Aidan’s relationship remains a central thread because season 2 ended with them agreeing to pause it for five years. King told Harper’s Bazaar that their story was a specific focus because that was where viewers had last seen them. He framed the season’s relationship stories more broadly as an exploration of how people evolve through new, familiar and possible connections.
King also described a personal principle that informs his perspective on change: “The most sophisticated thing you can do as a person is surrender to what’s being handed to you so that you can then decide whether you want it or not.”

What cast changes did King discuss?
King discussed Che and Nya’s arcs concluding before season 3. He said characters can move away when their narrative purpose has been fulfilled, and that their departures created room for a new thought in Miranda’s story.
That interview is not a complete cast ledger, so it should not be taken as a full account of who joins or returns. A separate Vogue cast guide reports developments involving Rosie O’Donnell, Patti LuPone, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kristen Schaal, Logan Marshall-Green, Mehcad Brooks and Jonathan Cake, and says Sebastiano Pigazzi and Dolly Wells become series regulars. Those reports do not, by themselves, amount to an exhaustive official cast list.
