Amy Schumer first addressed comments about her appearance in an Instagram post on February 15, 2024, saying her face was “puffier than normal” and mentioning endometriosis and unspecified medical and hormonal issues. In a later interview, she disclosed that she had been diagnosed with exogenous Cushing syndrome and said online comments helped prompt her to seek medical evaluation. Those were separate statements; Schumer did not identify endometriosis as the confirmed cause of the facial change.
What Schumer said in her February 15 Instagram post
Comments about Schumer’s appearance surfaced during television appearances promoting the second season of Life & Beth. On February 15, 2024, she responded on Instagram, acknowledging the change and mentioning health issues. ITV reported her post the following day: “And you’re right it is puffier than normal right now. I have endometriosis an auto immune disease that every woman should read about. There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I’m okay.” ITV News reported the post on February 16, 2024.
She also argued that women do not owe explanations for their appearance, encouraged self-acceptance, and urged attention to the work behind her series, which she created, wrote, starred in, and directed. Her response combined sarcasm toward the commentary with a request to focus on the show. Sky News covered her remarks on February 16, 2024.
What she disclosed later about Cushing syndrome
In an interview with journalist Jessica Yellin, reported by TheWrap on February 24 and CBS News on February 26, Schumer said she had been diagnosed with exogenous Cushing syndrome. CBS reported that she attributed the condition to high-dose steroid injections. Schumer also said the attention to her face led her to seek evaluation, telling CBS, “Aside from fears about my health, I also had to be on camera having the internet chime in. But thank God for that,” and, “Because that’s how I realized something was wrong.” CBS News reported her account and diagnosis disclosure on February 26, 2024.

As TheWrap reported, Schumer described the comments’ role in prompting her to get checked by saying, “The Internet is undefeated.” She also said her type of the condition would “just work itself out.” These are Schumer’s statements as reported in 2024, not independent verification of her medical history or an update on her health now. TheWrap reported on the interview on February 24, 2024.
What the reports establish—and what they do not
- In the February 15 post, Schumer said her face looked puffier than usual and mentioned endometriosis and medical and hormonal issues.
- In a later interview, she disclosed an exogenous Cushing syndrome diagnosis and said online comments helped prompt her to seek medical evaluation.
- The February 15 post did not establish that endometriosis caused the change in her face. The later diagnosis disclosure was a separate statement.
- The reports do not establish Schumer’s health status or treatment as of October 2026.
CBS described Cushing syndrome as resulting from prolonged excess cortisol and noted that a rounded face can be among its possible symptoms. That general description does not mean facial puffiness alone indicates Cushing syndrome. Schumer’s reported account linked her diagnosis to high-dose steroid injections; it should not be generalized to other people or used to diagnose the cause of a change in appearance.

Nor does the initial post establish a connection between endometriosis and Schumer’s facial appearance. Healthline’s general endometriosis coverage quotes an OB/GYN saying whole-body swelling is not a common symptom, while feeling swollen is a common complaint; that context does not determine the cause in Schumer’s case. Schumer’s broader point was that women should not have to account for how they look. Sky News quoted her saying, “I also believe a woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation.” She also pointed audiences toward Life & Beth and the work she had put into it, rather than treating speculation about her face as the main story.
