American Horror Story: 13 is scheduled to premiere in the United States on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT (6 p.m. PT) on FX and Hulu. The date replaces the earlier Halloween 2026 window. The season will be a large anthology crossover, with a particularly strong connection to Coven but not a simple Coven sequel.

Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman are among the principal returning or announced performers. Sarah Paulson is confirmed to return as Cordelia Goode, Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery, and Jessica Lange as Constance Langdon. Ariana Grande, who appeared in the original announcement, left before filming and should not be counted among the final cast.

That is the date to use in place of the earlier Halloween expectation. Ryan Murphy’s first announcement pointed toward Halloween 2026, but FX later moved the premiere to September 24. October 31, 2026 is therefore not the current confirmed premiere date.

For U.S. viewers, the season is set for FX and Hulu. The announcement does not establish a worldwide day-and-date release plan. International viewers should wait for local broadcaster or Disney+ announcements rather than assuming that the U.S. Hulu arrangement applies in every country.

What will American Horror Story: 13 be about?

The safest description is that Season 13 is an all-seasons crossover. Ryan Murphy has pushed back on the idea that the installment is simply another Coven story, describing it as involving “all the seasons,” with characters from the anthology converging.

That means viewers can reasonably expect links to several earlier chapters of the franchise, including Coven, Apocalypse, Murder House and Freak Show. However, the precise mechanics of the crossover remain secret. The complete timeline, the central threat and the way the returning characters interact have not been publicly explained.

Reports and production material have pointed to a Manhattan apartment-building setting, but that detail should remain qualified: it has been reported or inferred from production information, not fully explained by FX. Likewise, the rebuilt Robichaux Academy confirms a Coven-related location or storyline, but it does not prove that the entire season takes place at the witch academy.

The Coven connection: Cordelia, Madison and Robichaux Academy

The clearest franchise connection is to American Horror Story: Coven. Sarah Paulson is returning as Cordelia Goode, the Supreme and central figure from the witch-focused season. Emma Roberts is returning as Madison Montgomery, the sharp-tongued actress-turned-witch introduced in Coven.

Ryan Murphy’s promotional material also revealed that production rebuilt the Robichaux Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. That is a significant confirmation for fans of the New Orleans-set third season, although it should not be mistaken for a complete Season 13 synopsis.

If you want to revisit the specific mythology before the crossover arrives, American Horror Story: Coven — The Complete Third Season DVD is a relevant rewatch option. It contains the original 13-episode Coven season—not Season 13—and is best viewed as background for Cordelia, Madison and Robichaux Academy.

Confirmed and reported cast

Principal announced cast

The core ensemble originally announced for the season includes:

  • Jessica Lange, returning to the franchise after American Horror Story: Apocalypse
  • Sarah Paulson
  • Evan Peters
  • Angela Bassett
  • Kathy Bates
  • Emma Roberts
  • Billie Lourd
  • Gabourey Sidibe
  • Leslie Grossman

The original announcement did not disclose every character, so being listed in the ensemble does not by itself reveal whether an actor is reprising a familiar role or playing someone new.

Known character returns

  • Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Goode from Coven.
  • Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery from Coven.
  • Jessica Lange as Constance Langdon from Murder House, according to reported character information.
  • John Carroll Lynch as Twisty the Clown from Freak Show, according to trade reporting.
  • Mat Fraser as Paul the Illustrated Seal from Freak Show, also according to trade reporting.

Murphy has also indicated that several performers will play multiple characters from earlier installments. Reporting has said that Paulson may portray six or seven roles and Peters five, but a complete official role list has not been released.

Later reported or set-confirmed additions

The following names have been connected to the production through trade reports, set observations, promotional material or later announcements. They should not automatically be treated as a final official billing order:

  • Frances Conroy
  • John Carroll Lynch
  • Mat Fraser
  • Mena Suvari
  • Berto Colón, reported as Joe the Doorman
  • John Waters
  • Paul Anthony Kelly
  • Joey Pollari
  • Madeleine Petsch
  • Avantika Vandanapu
  • Alex Consani
  • Cara Delevingne
  • Charlie Carver

Avantika Vandanapu and Alex Consani have been seen in footage or set photographs associated with the Coven-related group. The roles of many of the other additions remain undisclosed. Cara Delevingne and Charlie Carver have been reported or seen in connection with production, but their precise Season 13 roles should remain caveated until FX publishes a definitive cast list.

Is Ariana Grande in Season 13?

No—not in the finished season based on the available reporting. Grande was part of the October 31, 2025 cast announcement, but production-date changes conflicted with her Eternal Sunshine Tour. Her departure was reported in July 2026, and she had not filmed any scenes. She should therefore be described as a former announced cast member, not as part of the confirmed final cast.

How many episodes will Season 13 have?

Ryan Murphy-related disclosures indicate that Season 13 will contain 13 episodes. If that count holds, it will be the longest American Horror Story installment since Freak Show.

FX has confirmed that the anthology has reached its thirteenth installment, but the network has not yet published a complete episode guide or confirmed the release pattern for every episode. The premiere date is firm; the dates after September 24 should be treated as unannounced until FX provides them.

Production, first-look material and promotion

Production began in April 2026. Ryan Murphy Productions and FX marked the start with a first-look image of Jessica Lange. Later production images showed Paulson, Roberts, Frances Conroy, Sidibe, Grossman, Avantika and Consani in New York-related material.

FX also promoted the season at its 2026 San Diego Comic-Con presence with a “13 Flavors” fan activation. That confirms an active promotional campaign, but it is not evidence that a full trailer or detailed synopsis has been released.

At the time covered by the available research, reliable reporting had established character images, set photographs and promotional events—not a complete official trailer explaining the plot. Be wary of social posts or video titles that present speculation about the villain, apartment-building mythology or episode storylines as confirmed information.

FX also operates an official American Horror Story merchandise shop with Coven-themed items, including “Bitchcraft” and “The Next Supreme” apparel. Those products are fan merchandise, not Season 13 plot information, and affiliate availability was not verified.
