A purported casting breakdown for Amazon’s God of War series was reported online in October 2025, but the document was not independently authenticated. Its role descriptions and character-name guesses should not be treated as official casting requirements. Later reporting, published in August 2026, named Dave Bautista as Kratos and said Prime Video had ordered two seasons.
What was reported about the casting call
On October 19, 2025, Insider Gaming reported that a casting call for the series had appeared online and was shared by entertainment insider DanielRPK. The outlet said the role descriptions were available through his Patreon and a Reddit post, while cautioning readers that the material’s authenticity and interpretation were uncertain. The document has not been independently authenticated in the available reporting. Insider Gaming’s October 19 report

Dark Horizons’ October 22 account described role codenames and details attributed to the purported breakdown. These are claims about leaked material, not verified production requirements:
- A role described as Kratos reportedly sought a male actor in his 40s to 60s.
- A role described as Atreus reportedly sought boys aged 9 to 12.
- The descriptions reportedly called for physicality and combat training. Some adult roles were said to involve nudity or simulated sex.

Which characters might the codenames refer to?
Dark Horizons interpreted “Alexander” as Odin and “Glen” as likely Baldur. It described “Phoebe” as unclear and raised Sif as a possibility. Those are the outlet’s interpretations of codenames in material whose authenticity has not been established; none of those identity matches should be read as confirmed casting information.

What later reporting says about the series
By August 21, 2026, Variety reported that Dave Bautista was set to play Kratos. Ryan Hurst had originally been announced for the role, but Variety said he suffered a torn bicep requiring surgery and scenes featuring him would need to be reshot. The outlet also reported that Prime Video ordered two seasons, planned to shoot back-to-back. These are later production reports, separate from the 2025 casting-call claims. Variety’s August 21, 2026 report
Variety described the adaptation as drawing on the two most recent God of War games and following Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel to spread Faye’s ashes. Its reproduced series logline says: “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.” Variety identified Ronald D. Moore as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, and Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios as co-producers with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.

Does the casting-call leak mean the show will depart from the games?
Not on the evidence available. A purported breakdown using codenames and broad role descriptions cannot establish how closely the finished series will follow the games. The later premise reported by Variety points to the Norse-era story of Kratos and Atreus, but does not settle how the adaptation will handle individual characters or plot details. Treat the leak as an unverified snapshot, not proof of a change in direction.
