Amazon’s Fire TV overhaul is three connected changes: a redesigned TV interface, a mobile app for browsing and sending shows to a Fire TV, and a new lifestyle-TV brand called Amazon Ember. The software changes are the most relevant for existing owners; the Ember Artline is a separate hardware purchase aimed at people who want a television that can display artwork when idle.
What changed in Amazon Fire TV?
| Area | What changed | Who it matters to |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV interface | Reworked navigation and discovery across supported services, with a redesigned live guide, watchlist and shortcut panel. | Owners of eligible Fire TV devices. |
| Mobile app | Browse, search and manage a watchlist on a phone, then send a selection to a connected Fire TV; remote control remains available. | People who prefer phone-based discovery or typing to remote entry. |
| Alexa+ | Conversational recommendations and controls, alongside narrower features such as scene search in Prime Video movies. | Users who want voice-based discovery and smart-home control. |
| Amazon Ember Artline | A matte-screen 4K QLED television designed to show artwork and personal photos when not in use as a TV. | Buyers who value ambient display and room-friendly design. |
Amazon says the Fire TV redesign began rolling out in February 2026. In an update dated June 22, 2026, it said current-generation Fire TV Stick devices, Fire TV Cube and Amazon Ember TVs purchased globally ship with the new experience. Partner-TV and existing-device availability is more specific than that broad statement suggests; see Amazon’s rollout details.
What is different in the Fire TV interface?
Discovery takes a more central role
The updated home experience is intended to help viewers find something across their subscribed services rather than treating the home screen only as a grid of apps. Amazon has added or emphasized categories for movies, TV shows, live TV, sports and news, as well as a Continue Watching row and a unified watchlist intended to gather titles from multiple services. How completely a service or title appears can depend on the service, country, account and installed apps.
Navigation and shortcuts
The visual refresh includes rounded corners, new gradients, updated typography, more spacing and revised layouts. There is more room for pinned apps, and search is easier to reach. The live guide has been redesigned to include personalized recommendations. A long-press of the remote’s Home button opens a shortcut panel; the menu also provides access to Games, Art & Photos and Ambient Experience. Amazon Photos and smart-home controls are more accessible from the interface.

Performance claims need context
Amazon says it rebuilt underlying code and that some existing devices may see software-performance gains of up to 20%–30%. That is Amazon’s claim about some devices, not an independently measured or universal speed improvement. Actual responsiveness depends on the device and its condition.
What the Fire TV mobile app can—and cannot—do
The redesigned app expands beyond its familiar remote-control role. It lets users browse and search participating services, view recommendations and Continue Watching content, manage a watchlist, and select a title on the phone for playback on a connected Fire TV. The phone keyboard can make text searches easier than entering letters with a remote.
It is a second screen, not a mobile video player: the selected program plays on the Fire TV, not in the app. Amazon’s regional app announcement says the app itself does not support video playback. The app is free, but service accounts or subscriptions may still be required for particular content.

TechCrunch reported the app rollout in March 2026 across the United States, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom. Amazon later described it as free worldwide. That does not guarantee identical catalogs, integrations or feature availability in every market. See TechCrunch’s rollout report and Amazon’s availability update.
How Alexa+ fits into the redesign
Amazon presents Alexa+ as a discovery and control layer, not just a way to issue basic remote commands. Examples it gives include asking for something to watch based on mood, company, actors or directors; adding a highlighted title to a watchlist; getting information about a game and player statistics; creating AI-generated screensavers; showing personal photos; and controlling compatible smart-home devices.
One advertised capability has a specific boundary: Amazon says Alexa+ can search scenes across thousands of Prime Video movies, with TV-series scene search planned for later. That is not a promise of scene-level search across every streaming service. Availability can also depend on country, device, language, account and software. Amazon separately says customers talk to Alexa+ more than 2.5 times as often as they did with the original Alexa; this is a company-reported comparison, not an independently verified usage study. Details appear in Amazon’s Fire TV and Alexa+ announcement.

Which devices get the redesigned interface?
| Device category | What Amazon has said | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon hardware | Current-generation Fire TV Stick devices, Fire TV Cube and Amazon Ember TVs are listed in Amazon’s June 22, 2026 update as shipping globally with the redesign. | Eligible existing devices may receive a free software update, but rollout timing can vary by model, market and staged deployment. |
| Partner-brand TVs | Amazon names Hisense Fire TV televisions as receiving the interface and says additional devices are scheduled later in summer 2026. | Earlier Amazon forum information also mentions Panasonic, TCL, Insignia and Xiaomi, but that does not establish that every model from those brands is supported or already updated. |
| Older Fire TV hardware | Amazon Japan says the app’s remote function continues to work on some first- and second-generation Fire TV Stick and Fire TV devices, as well as some FUNAI Fire TV televisions. | Remote compatibility does not mean those devices support every new app feature or receive the redesigned TV interface. |
For partner rollout specifics, consult Amazon’s update and its Fire TV forum announcement. Older-device app compatibility is described in the Amazon Japan announcement.
Why an eligible device may not show the new layout yet
The TV interface, the mobile app and the app’s individual features have separate availability. An eligible model may still be waiting for a staged rollout; a partner television may have its own schedule; and country or device support can differ. Installing an app update does not itself update the TV launcher.
Recommended Free Tools
- Check the exact Fire TV model and generation against Amazon’s rollout information.
- Install any available Fire OS updates through the device’s settings, then restart the Fire TV.
- Check that the device and Amazon account are configured for the correct country or region.
- Update the Fire TV mobile app separately if app features are missing.
- If the model is explicitly listed as eligible but remains unchanged, allow for staged availability and contact Amazon support. A factory reset is not a good first step: it removes logins and settings but cannot guarantee a server-side rollout.
If a phone search finds a title but playback does not start, first confirm that the connected Fire TV is available and that the relevant streaming app, account and subscription are in place. Search results can differ between phone and TV because of regional catalogs, service rights, installed apps, login status or device compatibility.

What is the Amazon Ember Artline?
Amazon Ember is the company’s new smart-TV brand, and the Artline is its first explicitly branded lifestyle-TV family. It is designed to serve as a conventional television and as an artwork display when idle, placing it in the same broad category as Samsung The Frame. The resemblance in purpose does not establish that one has better picture quality or value; that comparison requires model-specific testing.
Features and specifications
- 4K QLED display with a matte screen intended to reduce reflections.
- Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, plus Wi-Fi 6.
- Approximately 1.5-inch-thick design.
- Ambient Experience with more than 2,000 pieces of free art, according to Amazon, plus Amazon Photos integration.
- AI-assisted artwork recommendations based on room photos.
- Omnisense room-presence detection and far-field microphones for Alexa+.
- Magnetic, adjustable frames in 10 colors: Walnut, Ash, Teak, Black Oak, Matte White, Midnight Blue, Fig, Pale Gold, Graphite and Silver.
Sizes, markets and launch price
Amazon said the Artline began shipping in spring 2026 in the United States, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom, in 55- and 65-inch sizes, starting at $899 with one adjustable frame included. That is the announced starting price, not a guarantee of current stock or size-specific pricing. Check the live listing for availability and frame choices. Amazon advertises more than 2,000 free artworks; this does not establish that every collection or future feature is free.
The Artline’s matte surface may suit a bright room, but the evidence here does not establish how its reflection handling trades off against contrast, black levels or HDR performance. Before choosing it over a conventional television or The Frame, compare picture quality, art licensing and catalog, wall-mount hardware, frame costs, motion and gaming performance, ambient-mode power use, automatic wake and sleep behavior, interface, and microphone privacy. Far-field microphones are part of the Artline feature set, so households wary of always-listening voice assistants should consider that design choice. Amazon’s announcement does not provide an independent head-to-head test.

Should you upgrade your Fire TV or buy new hardware?
Keep your current device and take the software update
If your Fire TV is eligible, streaming reliably and has picture quality you like, try the redesigned experience before replacing hardware. It is most likely to address complaints about discovery, navigation, watchlists or remote-based text entry; it cannot improve the television panel itself.
Consider a newer streaming device
New hardware is more relevant if an older device remains slow, lacks features you want, has limited storage or unreliable HDMI behavior, or cannot support the updated experience. It can also make sense if you specifically need newer video formats, connectivity or a newer remote. Do not assume that buying new is necessary simply to get the interface: Amazon says eligible hardware receives the redesign as a free software update.
Consider the Artline only if the display role matters
The Artline’s premium proposition is not simply Fire TV software in a television; it combines the screen, ambient art, photos, presence sensing and magnetic frames. If the TV will spend much of its idle time displaying art, those features may be useful. If not, the lifestyle features may not justify choosing it over an ordinary television on value grounds.
Trade-offs to weigh
- A cross-service home screen can simplify discovery, but may give Amazon services or paid content more prominence than a straightforward app launcher.
- Cross-service search is not a guarantee that every service, title or playback method is supported equally.
- Alexa+ and app capabilities depend on region, device and service. The Fire TV app does not replace streaming apps or subscriptions.
- Amazon’s claimed speed gains and Alexa+ usage increase are company figures, not independently established performance results.
- Artline’s ambient-art value depends on whether you want a display when the TV is idle; its picture-quality and reflection trade-offs need independent testing.
Amazon says the Fire TV installed base exceeds 300 million devices purchased worldwide, including streaming players, Amazon TVs and partner-brand televisions. That is a company-reported cumulative figure, not a count of active devices. Amazon also cites U.S. viewers spending 12 minutes searching for something to watch, compared with 10.5 minutes in 2023; those are contextual company figures rather than evidence that the redesign will save each viewer a particular amount of time. See Amazon’s announcement.
Third-party services and content shown on Fire TV may require separate subscriptions or payments. Amazon’s content disclaimer makes clear that an item appearing in the interface does not mean access is included.
