In October 2025, Prime Video UK displayed Bond promotional images that appeared to remove guns from some depictions of 007. After fans objected, news reports described the artwork being replaced with film stills; a later report said original artwork appeared to return. The episode concerned streaming-platform imagery—not confirmed changes to theatrical poster releases—and Amazon’s reason for the redesign was not established in the coverage.
What changed in the Prime Video UK artwork?
The controversy surfaced around James Bond Day on 5 October 2025. The Guardian reported the next day that Prime Video had dropped gun-free Bond artwork following protests. One widely seen example was a Spectre teaser image that appeared to crop Daniel Craig’s gun out of the frame while leaving his shoulder holster visible. The Guardian’s report describes the image and the reaction.
Variety reported that Prime Video UK removed the controversial artwork after online backlash and used film stills instead. The report concerns the images used to present films on the streaming service, not alterations to the original theatrical posters. Variety’s coverage recounts that change.
What happened to the images afterward?
The reports do not describe one settled, verified catalog state. Variety reported removal and replacement with stills; The Independent later said original artwork appeared to have been restored. That is a contemporaneous report of an apparent restoration, not confirmation of what Prime Video currently displays in every territory or account. The Independent’s report covers the apparent return.

Were these theatrical James Bond posters?
No such change to theatrical poster editions is established by the reporting. The controversy was about Prime Video UK’s streaming presentation. That distinction matters because Bond poster history includes different formats, including advance and final one-sheets. A specialist archive separates those categories, but it is background on poster formats—not evidence about Amazon’s choices. The Bond poster archive documents the distinction.
- Streaming artwork: images displayed by a platform to represent titles in its catalog.
- Film still: a frame from the film, which Variety reported was used in place of the disputed artwork.
- Theatrical poster: a separately produced release poster, which should not be conflated with a streaming thumbnail or title image.
Why did Amazon remove the guns?
The October coverage cited here does not establish an official Amazon explanation. It would therefore be speculation to attribute the redesign to a content rule, marketing decision, or other specific motive. Nor does the coverage establish a verified statistic for the scale of the backlash.

Why did the controversy draw wider attention?
In February 2025, Amazon MGM Studios gained creative control of the Bond franchise through an arrangement with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who were stepping back from producing the films. That timing gave viewers a reason to interpret even a platform-image choice as a signal about the franchise’s stewardship, but the connection is an inference—not a documented cause of the artwork change.
Wilson said he was stepping back from producing to focus on art and charitable projects: “With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects.” The Associated Press reported the arrangement and quoted Wilson on 20 February 2025; his statement was about his producing career, not the redesigned images. How to describe the redesign accurately
The most precise description is that Prime Video UK displayed gun-free Bond poster-style artwork in October 2025, including an image reported to crop a gun from a Spectre teaser; coverage then described removal or replacement with stills, followed by an apparent restoration of original artwork. The reports do not establish a permanent change, a current catalog state, or an alteration to theatrical posters.
