Amazon’s offer of ad-free Max and Starz for about $21 per month was real, but it was reported on January 23, 2025, and its availability in 2026 is not confirmed. It was a paid Prime Video Channels bundle—not a benefit included with an Amazon Prime membership—and the original offer required watching through Prime Video.

What the original offer included
The January 2025 promotion was reported as a Prime Video Channels bundle containing:

The reported price was $20.99 per month, commonly rounded to $21. The comparison price cited at the time was $28 per month for the two services separately, representing a historical saving of $7 per month—or $84 over 12 months if the price remained unchanged.

That saving is not a current guarantee. The original report is historical, and Amazon’s current documentation confirms that Max and Starz can be paid Prime Video add-ons without confirming that this particular bundle or price is still active. See the original report and Amazon’s Prime Video terms.
How to check whether the deal is available now
- Sign in to Prime Video using the Amazon account you intend to use for billing.
- Open the area labeled Subscriptions, Channels, or a similar label. Amazon’s wording can vary by device, account, region, and interface version.
- Search for a combined Max and Starz offer.
- Confirm that both services appear in the same subscription and that the displayed price is acceptable.
- Read the plan details before paying, including ads, resolution, simultaneous streams, downloads, audio features, live content, trial terms, and renewal price.
- Confirm who bills you—Amazon or another provider—and save the confirmation email and renewal date.
If the bundle does not appear, the promotion may have ended, may be restricted to certain accounts or regions, or may be unavailable because of your existing subscriptions. Amazon says add-on pricing, availability, and content can change over time and by location. The Prime Video help page explains the general add-on arrangement, but it does not establish that the $21 promotion remains available.
What “ad-free Max” does—and does not—mean
The original coverage described the bundle as including Max’s ad-free service. That should generally be understood as ad-free on-demand programming, not a promise that every viewing experience contains no promotional messages or advertising. Live events, channel feeds, and content supplied under separate conditions may work differently.

Do not assume that “ad-free” means Max Premium. Max currently lists Basic with Ads, Standard, and Premium plans, with different limits and features. The historical report did not establish that the Prime Video offer included Premium or guaranteed 4K/UHD playback.
Before subscribing, check the live offer for:
- Maximum resolution and HDR or Dolby Vision support
- Number of simultaneous streams
- Offline download availability
- Audio features
- Live sports or other live programming
- The exact Max plan name supplied through Prime Video
For the current distinctions among Max plans, consult Max’s plan documentation. Prime Video Channel versions may not match every plan available directly from Max.
The biggest trade-off: Prime Video Channels
The original offer was not simply a Max subscription and a Starz subscription purchased directly from their own websites. It was a Prime Video Channels subscription. The report said subscribers had to watch through Prime Video rather than necessarily using the standalone Max and Starz apps.

This can be convenient if you prefer one Amazon bill and one viewing interface. It can be a poor fit if you want the independent Max or Starz apps, separate account controls, or features that are unavailable through a provider-specific channel subscription. Check compatible devices and app access before purchasing.

The historical $21 figure was the add-on price, not the complete cost of maintaining Amazon access. The January 2025 report mentioned a Prime price that applied at that time; do not treat that historical figure as current. Review the amount shown for your account at checkout.
Also check whether the promotional rate expires. A bundle that begins at $20.99 may renew at a higher price, change tiers, or disappear entirely. The renewal amount shown by Amazon—not an old headline—controls your decision.
Check for duplicate billing before signing up
If you already pay Max or Starz directly, or receive either service through a wireless, cable, internet, or other entertainment package, inspect that billing first. The available evidence does not establish whether existing direct subscribers could automatically transfer, link accounts, or qualify without canceling.

You may need to cancel an existing subscription separately, and cancellation may not end access until the current billing period finishes. Do not assume that starting a Prime Video Channel automatically stops direct billing.
STARZ specifically warns that customers can accidentally subscribe through both Amazon and the standalone STARZ service. Check your Amazon Prime Video subscriptions and your direct Max or STARZ accounts to avoid paying twice. See STARZ’s Amazon guidance.
Who should consider the bundle?
It may make sense if you want both services for several months, the live Amazon price is meaningfully lower than separate subscriptions, and you are comfortable watching through Prime Video. Max can appeal to viewers interested in HBO programming, Warner Bros. films, classic-film and family catalog content, while Starz may be useful for its own original series and film selection. Catalogs change, so check the services for the specific titles you want.
Who should skip it?
- You want to use the standalone Max or Starz apps.
- You require Max Premium features such as the highest available resolution or stream allowance.
- You already receive either service through another plan.
- You watch only one service occasionally and could rotate subscriptions month to month.
- The offer is unavailable, has a higher renewal price, or does not clearly state its features.
- You prefer separate account management rather than centralized Amazon billing.
Bottom line
The $21 Max-and-Starz offer was a genuine January 2025 promotion, approximately $20.99 per month, with a reported $7 monthly saving. But it should not be treated as an evergreen deal. As of the latest available evidence, Amazon’s public help pages confirm paid Max and Starz add-ons without confirming this exact bundle.
Check Prime Video while signed in, verify the current price and renewal terms at checkout, confirm the Max tier and app limitations, and cancel or account for any existing subscriptions before subscribing.
