Yes—Amazon officially included Pakistan in its Prime Video global rollout announced on December 13, 2016. The announcement covered more than 200 countries and territories, listed Pakistan at a temporary price of $2.99 per month, and offered a seven-day trial. However, “now available” described the situation in 2016, not a new 2026 announcement. Today’s Pakistani price, catalogue, payment route and device support must be checked directly at PrimeVideo.com.
What Amazon actually announced
Amazon’s English announcement on December 13, 2016 said Prime Video had expanded to customers in more than 200 countries and territories. “Territories” matters: the figure was not a count of 200 sovereign states. Pakistan appeared in Amazon’s accompanying country-and-price list, confirming that it was part of the rollout.
The announcement concerned Prime Video streaming access. It did not announce Amazon’s retail marketplace, delivery network or the full shopping benefits of an Amazon Prime membership in Pakistan. Customers were directed to sign up through PrimeVideo.com.
Amazon’s launch announcement named Android phones and tablets, iPhones and iPads, Fire tablets, selected LG and Samsung smart TVs, and web playback among the supported options. Supported mobile devices could also download some titles for offline viewing. See the original announcement at Amazon’s December 2016 press release.

Was it bundled with Amazon Prime shopping?
No such Pakistani retail bundle was established by the announcement. Amazon said Prime Video was included at no additional cost for Prime members in specified markets such as Belgium, Canada, France, India, Italy and Spain. Pakistan was listed instead among new territories receiving a standalone Prime Video introductory offer. The announcement therefore should not be read as proof of free shipping or other Amazon retail Prime benefits in Pakistan.

What language support was promised?
Amazon said its Original series were available in English, with French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish subtitles or dubbing for part of the catalogue. That was not a promise of Urdu subtitles or dubbing. Language tracks remain title-specific and territory-specific; open a programme’s details page to inspect its actual audio and subtitle options.
Is the headline still accurate today?
Only as a historical statement. “Now” referred to December 2016. A current article should say that Prime Video launched in Pakistan during Amazon’s December 2016 global expansion, rather than presenting the old wording as breaking news.

Amazon’s current corporate explainer uses the broader description “more than 240 countries worldwide.” That later figure and the original “more than 200 countries and territories” describe different points in time, so they should not be treated as contradictory. Amazon’s current overview is at About Amazon.
Amazon’s global terms say that content, offers, pricing and availability can vary by location and change over time. The safest current wording is therefore: Pakistan was officially included in the 2016 rollout, while the live Pakistani offer must be verified at signup.

Why the Pakistani catalogue may differ from the US catalogue
Prime Video availability does not mean that every country receives the same service. A title offered in the United States may be absent in Pakistan, available only to rent or buy, or removed when a licence expires. Sports rights and live events are especially dependent on territory.
The interface can show several types of access:
- Titles included with the base subscription.
- Films or programmes available for separate rental or purchase.
- Pay-per-view events.
- Optional third-party channel subscriptions.
- Free or promotional items.
Amazon’s terms also prohibit attempts to obscure geographic location. Using a VPN to obtain another country’s catalogue is not an approved workaround; Amazon says it uses technology to verify location. Read the relevant terms at Prime Video Help.

How to check Pakistani access before paying
- Open PrimeVideo.com and sign in or create an Amazon account.
- Use your actual Pakistani location and payment details. Do not rely on a foreign storefront to infer the Pakistani offer.
- Review the price, currency, renewal date and any trial shown on the live checkout screen.
- Search for the specific films, series or sports rights you want, and confirm that each is included rather than offered as a rental, purchase or add-on.
- Check the title page for available English, Urdu, Hindi and other audio or subtitle tracks; language support is not uniform.
- Install Prime Video from the relevant device app store. Depending on the device, registration may use your credentials, a QR code or a displayed registration code. Amazon’s device instructions are at Prime Video device help.
- Test playback on the television, phone or streaming device and internet connection you plan to use before buying additional hardware.
Payment and billing issues in Pakistan
Amazon’s current help material says Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards can be used internationally, subject to the account, card issuer and transaction conditions. Pakistan is not among the countries listed for local-currency Prime Video payments. That means a Pakistani customer may see a foreign-currency charge rather than a rupee plan.
- Your bank may add foreign-exchange or international-transaction fees.
- The issuer may block an online or recurring international payment or request extra verification.
- A failed payment can lead to cancellation if no valid replacement method is supplied.
- Subscriptions generally renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date.
These points do not prove that Prime Video is unavailable in Pakistan; they mean that the checkout screen and your bank’s rules are decisive. Consult Amazon’s payment guidance at its local-currency and international-card help page.
Device support: then and now
The 2016 launch named Android and iOS mobile devices, Fire tablets, selected LG and Samsung televisions and web playback. Amazon’s current support categories also cover many televisions, Blu-ray players, game consoles, streaming-media devices and other Amazon hardware. Exact compatibility depends on the model, operating-system version and app availability.
Check whether your existing smart TV already supports the Prime Video app before purchasing a streaming stick. Amazon’s current device guidance is the best reference because supported models and software requirements can change.
A short timeline
| Date or period | What it means |
|---|---|
| December 13, 2016 | Amazon announced expansion to more than 200 countries and territories. |
| December 2016 launch period | Pakistan appeared in the country list with a $2.99 monthly introductory price, described as lasting six months, plus a seven-day trial for eligible customers. |
| Current Amazon description | Amazon describes Prime Video as available in more than 240 countries worldwide, while warning that offers, catalogues and pricing vary by location and time. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Sharing the 2016 announcement as if it were a new 2026 launch.
- Calling the service “Amazon Prime” and implying that Pakistani users receive retail shipping benefits.
- Assuming the US catalogue, sports rights or live events apply in Pakistan.
- Treating every visible title as included in the subscription.
- Using the old $2.99 promotion as a current price.
- Expecting rupee billing because the service is available in Pakistan.
- Assuming Urdu subtitles or dubbing are available on every title.
- Buying a streaming device without checking whether the existing TV already supports Prime Video.
- Ignoring automatic renewal and the cancellation deadline.
What Pakistani viewers should decide before subscribing
- Price: Confirm the live checkout amount and currency.
- Bank compatibility: Ask whether your card permits recurring international charges.
- Catalogue: Search for the exact shows, films or competitions you care about.
- Language: Check audio and subtitles title by title.
- Hardware: Verify the exact TV or streaming-device model.
- Performance: Test streaming quality and downloads on your connection.
- Renewal: Note the renewal date and cancellation terms.
Bottom line
Amazon Prime Video really did include Pakistan in its December 2016 expansion to more than 200 countries and territories. The $2.99 introductory price, $5.99 standard price and seven-day trial belong to that launch period. Prime Video remains a globally offered service, but Pakistan’s current price, payment method, catalogue, language tracks and device experience are not fixed by the old announcement. Check the live Pakistani offer at PrimeVideo.com before subscribing.
