Yes—Amazon Music is a genuine Windows app distributed through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft announced its release on February 13, 2018, for Windows 10 PCs and tablets. That was a historical launch, not a new 2026 release. A US Microsoft Store listing remains visible, although availability and compatibility can vary by country, account, and Windows device.
Microsoft’s announcement and Amazon’s matching announcement describe the original rollout.
What was announced in 2018?
The Amazon Music app became downloadable from the Microsoft Store on February 13, 2018. It was a native Windows 10 application for PCs and tablets, rather than a shortcut to the web player.
The initial rollout covered the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, and Japan. Microsoft listed Windows 10 Anniversary Update or later as the minimum requirement at launch.

Is Amazon Music still in the Microsoft Store?
The official US listing is currently shown as a free app with in-app purchases: Amazon Music in the Microsoft Store. The available listing does not establish a current version number, complete system requirements, or feature changelog. It also does not prove that installation works in every region or on every Windows edition.

Prime Music or Unlimited?
Prime Music suits
- Existing Prime members who want music included with their membership.
- Listeners who can accept shuffle and offline-playlist restrictions.
Unlimited suits
- People who require unrestricted, on-demand song selection.
- Listeners wanting downloads, HD/Ultra HD, or spatial audio.
- Households that need separate family accounts.
Do not confuse it with the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11
These are separate products:
- Amazon Music Windows app: a Windows application distributed through the Microsoft Store.
- Amazon Appstore on Windows 11: an Android-app storefront and runtime based on Windows Subsystem for Android.
- Amazon Music web player: browser access through Amazon’s music site.
Microsoft ended Windows Subsystem for Android and Amazon Appstore support on March 5, 2025. That shutdown does not establish that the separate Amazon Music Store app was discontinued. See Amazon’s discontinuation notice and Microsoft’s support page.

Amazon Music versus Spotify
Amazon Music is especially logical for Prime members, Alexa households, and listeners interested in HD, Ultra HD, or spatial audio. Spotify may suit people who prioritize discovery, social features, playlists, and a broader non-Amazon ecosystem.

Spotify’s US page showed Individual at $12.99/month, Student at $6.99, Duo at $18.99, and Family at $21.99 when checked; prices and promotions can change. See Spotify Premium.
The Bottom Line
Amazon Music genuinely arrived in the Microsoft Store on February 13, 2018. The US listing remains visible, but current installation depends on region, account, and device compatibility. Use the Store app for a native Windows installation, Prime Music if its playback limits are acceptable, and Unlimited for unrestricted on-demand and higher-quality listening. The discontinued Amazon Appstore for Windows is unrelated.
