Alyssa Milano denied getting Shannen Doherty fired from Charmed, saying she did not have the power to fire anyone. Doherty and Holly Marie Combs had described an alleged ultimatum that they said contributed to Doherty’s 2001 departure. Doherty later stood by their account. The public statements document competing recollections; the reports do not independently establish what happened behind the scenes.
What Alyssa Milano said
On February 3, 2024, TVLine reported Milano’s response to the claims. She said, “I did not have the power to get anyone fired,” and attributed the decision to the studio, Aaron Spelling, and the network, saying they acted “to protect the international hit that was Charmed.” TVLine reported her statement.
Milano also said a professional mediator and an on-set producer were brought in to investigate claims. That description comes from Milano’s account; the reporting does not independently confirm the investigation’s findings or establish who made the employment decision.
What Doherty and Combs alleged
On Doherty’s podcast, Combs recalled that a producer told her the production had to choose between the actresses. TVLine reported Combs’s account as including an alleged threat by Milano to sue over a hostile work environment. This was Combs relaying what she said a producer had told her—not independent confirmation that the conversation or ultimatum occurred. TVLine’s report describes the account.

How Shannen Doherty responded
At a MegaCon Orlando panel on February 4, 2024, Doherty said she and Combs had edited their podcast discussion to avoid creating more drama and stood by what they had said. “We simply told the truth [on my podcast], because the truth actually does matter,” she said, according to The Independent’s February 6 report. TVLine also reported her remarks from the panel.
Where the dispute fits in Charmed’s history
Doherty played Prue Halliwell and left the series at the end of season three. Rose McGowan joined in season four as Paige Matthews, according to The Independent. Milano said Charmed continued for five more successful seasons after Doherty’s departure; “successful” was her characterization, not an independently measured finding in the reporting.

What the reports establish—and what they don’t
The accounts differ, and their evidentiary status matters:
- Milano’s position: She denied causing Doherty’s firing and said she had no authority to fire anyone.
- Combs’s recollection: She said a producer described an either-or choice and attributed a hostile-workplace lawsuit threat to Milano.
- Doherty’s response: She reaffirmed what she and Combs had said on the podcast.
The cited reports establish that these statements were made, not which account of the private events is correct. They do not independently verify the alleged ultimatum, the production’s decision-making process, or the outcome of the investigation Milano described.
