The original Alt TikTok quiz is a user-created Google Form titled “Alt tik tok quiz,” with the subtitle “are you really on the elite side.” It contains 11 questions worth four points each, for a maximum score of 44. The form was built around the slang, creators, memes, and inside jokes associated with the less-mainstream side of TikTok in roughly 2020.
The quiz is best understood as a nostalgic fandom test—not a psychological assessment and not an official TikTok feature. It can show how many period-specific references you recognize, but it cannot objectively determine your personality, sexuality, creativity, or “true” place on TikTok.
Where to find the Alt TikTok quiz
Search for the exact title “Alt tik tok quiz” in Google Forms or search the full phrase “Alt tik tok quiz are you really on the elite side”. The surviving form identified in the original coverage uses that title and subtitle.
The form was accessible in the researched page view and displayed its questions and submission controls. However, availability and behavior can change: the owner may stop accepting responses, disable automatic scoring, or remove the form. Finding the form does not guarantee that the creator still reviews submissions or that you will receive the same result experience users saw in 2020.

Before submitting, check that the page matches these identifying details:
- Title: Alt tik tok quiz
- Subtitle: are you really on the elite side
- Number of questions: 11
- Maximum score: 44 points
- Format: a Google Form with deliberately chaotic, reference-heavy answer choices
If the original form no longer opens, search the title in quotation marks rather than relying on an unrelated modern “Alt TikTok” personality quiz. Copies and reposts may change the questions, answer choices, scoring, or privacy settings.
What is in the quiz?
The questions test recognition of very specific references from the 2020-era Alt TikTok ecosystem. They are not general questions about how often you use TikTok. Topics in the surviving form include:
| Reference in the quiz | What it represents |
|---|---|
#free____2020 |
A period-specific hashtag joke or campaign reference |
| The “gummy bear album” | An obscure internet-culture reference used as a recognition test |
| Barb terminology | Fan slang associated with online music fandom and meme culture |
| SM6Band | A creator or community reference that circulated in the relevant TikTok subculture |
| “xue hua piao” | A widely reused audio or meme reference from that period |
| Step Chickens | A named TikTok fandom or community reference |
| The “chicken wing” meme | A recognizable in-joke from the same period |
Some questions use crude, exclusionary, or intentionally provocative in-jokes. That language reflects the online culture preserved by the form; it should not be treated as an endorsement or as a reliable description of the people associated with those communities.

Each of the 11 questions is worth four points. The arithmetic is straightforward:
11 questions × 4 points = 44 possible points.
The score indicates how many of the quiz’s chosen references you recognize. It does not establish a scientifically meaningful threshold between “Alt TikTok” and “Straight TikTok.” The available coverage does not provide a validated scoring rubric or an official set of score bands, so it would be misleading to invent categories such as “fully alt” or “not alt.”

- A classroom classic: this 6-pack of 1-subject spiral notebooks helps you identify your subjects at a glance with color-coding efficiency; color assortment may vary
- The right ruling: these 8" x 10-1/2", college-ruled notebooks fit more writing per page than wide-ruled sheets; each notebook provides 70 double-sided sheets with red margin lines
- Perect perforation: Dependable micro-perforated sheets retain your must-have notes but still detach cleanly when you’re ready to revise
- Glide from page to page: Your favorite gel or ballpoint pens will move effortlessly across these smooth pages for A+ notes with minimal ink bleeding or show-through
- 3-Hold punched: Every notebook comes 3-hole punched to fit a standard binder; take along one notebook or several to save extra trips to the locker
A low score may simply mean that you joined TikTok later, used a different For You feed, did not follow the relevant creators, or did not participate in those fandoms. A high score means you recognize more of the references selected by the quiz maker. Neither result proves that one user is more authentic than another.
What did “Alt TikTok” mean?
Alt TikTok was short for “alternative TikTok.” Around 2020, people used the term for a less-mainstream cluster of content and users associated with surreal humor, chaotic jokes, unusual memes, artsy or alternative aesthetics, and comedy that felt closer to older Vine-style internet culture than to polished influencer content.
The label was also associated with queer and alternative online communities, but it was never a synonym for being LGBTQ+. In everyday use, it increasingly described a person’s content preferences, humor, or online community rather than a fixed identity. A person could encounter Alt TikTok content without belonging to any particular demographic group, and a queer user was not automatically part of Alt TikTok.
Related labels included the alt side, the elite side, the gay side of TikTok, deep TikTok, and sometimes cursed TikTok. These terms overlapped, but they were not exact synonyms in every community. Their meanings depended on who was using them and which creators, jokes, or aesthetics they had in mind.
What did “Straight TikTok” mean?
Straight TikTok generally referred to the more mainstream side of the platform: dance challenges, lip-sync videos, popular trends, Hype House-style influencer content, polished creator posts, and thirst-trap content.
The word “straight” could carry a sexuality-related implication, especially in earlier internet slang. In the context of the 2020-era TikTok contrast, however, it was commonly used as shorthand for mainstream TikTok culture—not as a literal statement about every creator’s sexual orientation.

The distinction was therefore about online culture and content exposure more than a strict division between two kinds of people:
| Alt TikTok | Straight TikTok |
|---|---|
| Surreal, chaotic, or deliberately strange humor | Mainstream trends and recognizable formats |
| Obscure memes and inside jokes | Dance challenges and lip-sync videos |
| Artsy, unconventional, or alternative aesthetics | Polished influencer and creator content |
| Community-specific references | Widely circulated viral content |
This is a simplified historical contrast, not a universal classification system. Many users watched both kinds of content, and the boundaries shifted constantly.
Were there really separate sides of TikTok?
Not as separate apps, settings, or official feeds. TikTok did not provide an “Alt” mode and a “Straight” mode, and the company did not formally divide users into those categories.
“Sides of TikTok” was user-created platform vernacular. Academic research on TikTok describes these sides as communities formed around algorithmically curated clusters of similar content. In practical terms, a user’s follows, likes, comments, searches, watch time, and other interactions influenced what appeared in the For You feed. Two people could use the same app but encounter very different creators, sounds, jokes, and subcultures.

That difference made the metaphor feel real. Someone whose feed was filled with dance trends might believe that was “normal TikTok,” while someone else’s feed was dominated by surreal memes, fandom jokes, or obscure creators. Both experiences could exist on the same platform at the same time.
How to interpret your result responsibly
- Read it as a time capsule. The quiz is tied closely to the 2020 TikTok ecosystem. References that once circulated widely may now be obscure or absent from current feeds.
- Separate recognition from identity. Knowing a meme does not make someone more alternative, more creative, more queer, or more authentic.
- Account for algorithmic exposure. TikTok users did not all see the same content. A person could miss a reference simply because it never reached their feed.
- Consider when you used TikTok. Someone who joined after 2020 may receive a low score despite being deeply familiar with current TikTok culture.
- Be cautious with labels. “Alt,” “elite,” “gay side,” “deep,” and “cursed” were overlapping slang terms, not precise identities.
- Do not treat the result as diagnostic. The form was made for entertainment and inside-joke recognition, not psychological measurement.
Why the quiz feels confusing today
The form preserves a very specific internet moment. TikTok trends move quickly, communities rename themselves, sounds disappear from circulation, and creators move between platforms. A question that made immediate sense to a regular viewer in 2020 may now look random, misspelled, or impossible to answer without searching.

That dated quality is part of the quiz’s appeal. It functions less like a current test of TikTok literacy and more like an archive of the references that helped define one online subculture. The result is meaningful only in that limited sense: it measures familiarity with the quiz maker’s map of 2020 Alt TikTok.

Common problems when trying to take it
The search results show several different quizzes
Use the exact title and subtitle above. Articles from the period covered by the quiz point to the same Google Form, while newer results may use “Alt TikTok” for unrelated personality tests.
The form opens but will not submit
The owner may have stopped accepting responses, restricted access, or changed the form settings. You can still read the questions if they remain visible, but a score may not be available.
The result page does not appear
Google Forms can be configured with different response and score settings. The form’s continued accessibility does not guarantee that its owner still provides automatic feedback.
You do not recognize most of the references
That is expected for a historical quiz, especially if you joined TikTok later or spent time on a different part of the platform. Do not use the result as evidence that you were—or were not—part of a particular identity group.
