In a 2022 account, designer Zohaib Muhammad described its center stone as a 3-carat oval diamond, set in 14-karat white gold with diamond pavé and a hidden halo. A separate, much larger estimate circulated in another publication, but it was not a confirmed carat weight or purchase price.
Who designed Simone Biles’s engagement ring?
ZoFrost & Co., a Houston-area private jeweler, designed the ring. National Jeweler reported in February 2022 that Zohaib Muhammad worked with Jonathan Owens on the design. Muhammad said Owens considered several stones before choosing one: “After looking at a number of stones, he handpicked the 3-carat oval diamond.” National Jeweler’s account attributes the specifications to the designer, rather than to an independent gemological appraisal.

The pavé adds small diamonds along the band. A hidden halo sits beneath the center stone, so it is seen from the side rather than forming a ring of diamonds around the center when viewed from above. Muhammad described the design request this way: “He wanted to add a special touch to the ring by adding a halo around the center stone.”
Why do reports give different carat weights and prices?
National Jeweler’s 3-carat figure comes from the jeweler’s description. Us Weekly separately quoted Mike Fried, CEO of The Diamond Pro, estimating from photographs that the oval appeared to be at least 8 carats and worth approximately $300,000. That was an outside visual estimate, not a verified stone measurement or confirmed purchase price. The two accounts should not be combined into a single specification. Us Weekly’s report identifies Fried as the source of the estimate; the available reporting does not establish what Owens paid.

When did Biles and Owens announce their engagement?
Biles and Owens announced their engagement on February 15, 2022, sharing proposal photos taken in Houston. Biles captioned her announcement “THE EASIEST YES,” while Owens wrote, “Woke up this morning with a fiancée.” BET reproduced both announcements.
