The clearest way to watch the main James Bond film series is in release order: the 25 Eon-produced theatrical films, from Dr. No (1962) to No Time to Die (2021). The final five films star Daniel Craig and form a connected story. Counts of 27 refer to adding three non-Eon productions only if the 1954 television adaptation is excluded; a broader screen-history list can include it too.

Why release order is the best default
There is no need to rearrange the main series into a separate chronological order: release order is the verifiable sequence and naturally follows the franchise’s changing actors and production eras. It is especially useful for Daniel Craig’s five films, which tell a linked story rather than five wholly separate adventures.
The British Film Institute describes the Craig run as a unified whole. Quantum of Solace picks up immediately after Casino Royale, while No Time to Die begins in the aftermath of Spectre. The BFI’s 2022 programme notes state: “Now, the 25th film in the EON series, No Time to Die, begins in the aftermath of Spectre (2015) where the film’s conclusion saw Bond (Craig) and Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux) drive away in the Aston Martin DB5.” (BFI programme notes, James Bond at 60 Weekend: No Time to Die.)

Which James Bond movies are outside the Eon series?
Some lists say there are 27 Bond films by adding the two non-Eon theatrical features to the 25-film Eon series. A broader list of screen portrayals can also include a 1954 television adaptation. Keep these separate from the Eon release-order list:
- Casino Royale (1954) — CBS television production starring Barry Nelson.
- Casino Royale (1967) — theatrical film starring David Niven.
- Never Say Never Again (1983) — theatrical film starring Sean Connery.
These are distinct productions, not additional entries in the 25-film Eon sequence. BondMovies.com and 007 Magazine distinguish them from the main series; Rotten Tomatoes’ guide, updated September 28, 2026, uses the broader “27” framing.

How to choose a watch order
- First time watching: use the 25-film release list above. It gives the full Eon series in its original order.
- Only watching Daniel Craig: start at Casino Royale (2006) and continue in release order through No Time to Die (2021).
- Want every major screen portrayal: watch the 25 Eon films in order, then treat the three non-Eon productions as optional extras rather than folding them into the main sequence.
For cast, crew, gadgets, cars, posters, and production context for the Eon films, 007 Magazine’s Bond film files provide a specialist reference.
