Which Naruto movie is the best? This is a subjective ranking of all 11 theatrical films listed by Studio Pierrot, weighing standalone story coherence, character development, action and visual execution, emotional payoff, and relevance to the main story. Continuity matters, but it does not automatically make a film a better standalone adventure. The studio’s list establishes the films and their release order, not a critical ranking or consensus: Studio Pierrot’s film list.

What are all 11 Naruto movies?

Studio Pierrot’s release list spans the first 2004 film through Boruto: Naruto the Movie in 2015. The ranking below covers exactly those 11 theatrical releases, not television specials or other Naruto screen adaptations. The numbers are this article’s editorial order, from least to most satisfying overall.

  1. Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
  2. Naruto the Movie: Legend of the Stone of Gelel
  3. Naruto the Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom
  4. Naruto Shippuden the Movie
  5. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Bonds
  6. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Will of Fire
  7. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Lost Tower
  8. Naruto the Movie: Blood Prison
  9. Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie
  10. The Last: Naruto the Movie
  11. Boruto: Naruto the Movie

How this ranking weighs the films

The order balances five considerations: whether the story works on its own, how meaningfully it uses its characters, the execution of its action and visuals, the strength of its emotional payoff, and its importance to the main franchise story. The first four determine how enjoyable and complete a film feels as a movie; continuity relevance is considered separately. That distinction matters because several films carry more franchise significance than their standalone plots alone would suggest.

All 11 Naruto movies, ranked

11. Naruto the Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom

The third original-series film delivers a straightforward escort-and-protection adventure, but its royal-family conflict and new setting do less to deepen the central cast than the stronger entries here. It has the appeal of a self-contained mission, yet comparatively little emotional or franchise impact.

10. Naruto the Movie: Legend of the Stone of Gelel

This sequel has the energy of a larger-scale mission and gives Naruto, Sakura, and Shikamaru a reason to work together. Its fantasy threat and mythology are more elaborate than the first film’s, but the story is less focused, and the added scale does not translate into a more compelling character journey.

9. Naruto Shippuden the Movie

The first Shippuden film starts with a striking premise: Naruto is told that he will die, and the group is tasked with protecting a priestess. The prophecy gives the mission emotional stakes, though the film’s plot and supporting cast do not fully capitalize on them. It is a serviceable Shippuden-era adventure rather than one of the series’ most memorable stories.

8. Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow

The first theatrical film benefits from a strong change of scenery and a mission built around escorting an actress to a snowy film set. Its use of Team 7 gives it a more immediate connection to the original series than some later side stories, and the action is an appealing showcase for the early cast. The story is compact, but it remains a modest adventure rather than a major character turning point.

7. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Bonds

Bonds gets mileage from pairing Naruto with Sasuke’s shadow over a story about an attack on the Hidden Leaf and a threat from the sky. Its central idea brings personal tension to a large-scale conflict, and the action has an appropriately heightened feel. The plot is busier than its emotional resolution can comfortably support, keeping it in the middle of the list.

6. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Lost Tower

The time-travel setup gives The Lost Tower a strong hook: Naruto is sent into the past and encounters a younger version of his father, Minato. That connection supplies both emotional appeal and a fresh context for Naruto’s familiar determination. The film’s significance is more personal than foundational to the main plot, but it uses its premise effectively.

5. Naruto the Movie: Blood Prison

Blood Prison moves Naruto into a harsher setting, framing the story around his imprisonment and a mystery inside a remote facility. The change of tone helps distinguish it from the usual team mission, and the prison setting gives the conflict a contained, uneasy atmosphere. Its reputation as a side story does not prevent it from working as one of the more distinctive standalone entries.

4. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Will of Fire

This film puts the ideals of the shinobi world at its center, making its conflict feel closely tied to the series’ recurring questions about loyalty, sacrifice, and what it means to protect others. Its ensemble scale and strong emotional stakes give the story more thematic weight than a routine mission. It does not carry the continuity importance of the top-ranked films, but it is one of the most satisfying Shippuden-era movie stories.

3. Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie

Road to Ninja uses an alternate version of the Hidden Leaf to explore what Naruto and Sakura might feel they are missing. The altered relationships make the movie’s emotional center more personal than a simple alternate-world spectacle, while the familiar cast is transformed in ways that serve the premise. Its imaginative setup and character focus put it near the top, even though its events are not a main-story turning point.

2. The Last: Naruto the Movie

The Last earns its high place through its focus on Naruto and Hinata and its role in their relationship. Franchise guides place it after Naruto Shippuden episode 493 and before episode 494, and identify it as one of the films treated as canon; those are guide classifications and viewing recommendations, rather than a ranking from Studio Pierrot. Its strongest value is in closing an important relationship thread, which gives it more continuity weight than most of the films on this list.

1. Boruto: Naruto the Movie

Boruto: Naruto the Movie is the strongest overall choice here because its father-son conflict gives the spectacle a clear emotional core. Boruto’s frustration with Naruto creates a grounded character problem, while the film also marks a handoff toward the next generation. Its story is one of the two films franchise guides classify as canon. The Boruto anime later retells the movie’s story in its Chunin Exam arc, so viewers following that series can choose the film or its anime adaptation rather than treating both as required.

Which Naruto movies are canon?

GamesRadar+ and NarutoHQ both identify The Last: Naruto the Movie and Boruto: Naruto the Movie as the two canon films. This is the classification given by those franchise guides; Studio Pierrot’s announcement lists the films but does not rank them or supply a canon guide. The other nine are commonly framed by those guides as side stories, which describes their relationship to the main narrative, not whether they are worth watching.

GamesRadar+ and NarutoHQ place The Last after Naruto Shippuden episode 493 and before episode 494; NarutoHQ describes it as depicting Naruto and Hinata getting together. NarutoHQ also notes that the Boruto anime retells the Boruto film’s story during its Chunin Exam arc.

What order should I watch the Naruto movies in?

Release order

For a first pass through the theatrical releases, follow Studio Pierrot’s release list: start with Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow and continue in the numbered order above through Boruto: Naruto the Movie. Release order is the clearest way to follow how the films arrived; it is not the same as inserting every film into the anime chronology.

Anime-integrated viewing

GamesRadar+ proposes placements for the earlier films alongside the anime and places The Last between Shippuden episodes 493 and 494. Treat those episode positions as a guide’s suggested viewing order, not a definitive chronology published by the studio. Since most of the first nine films are presented by franchise guides as side stories whose events are not revisited in the main story, viewers can also watch them separately without interrupting the series.

Where can you watch or collect the films?

Availability depends on region and date, so check a licensed service or retailer in your country rather than assuming that a past streaming announcement reflects current access. Studio Pierrot announced that all 11 films would begin streaming on dTV in Japan on July 16, 2021; that historical announcement does not establish present-day availability on dTV or elsewhere.

If buying physical media, verify the individual listing for which films are included, language and subtitle options, region compatibility, and current stock. The sources cited here do not establish that a single complete 11-film set is available.
