Dak Prescott’s parents are Peggy and Nathaniel Prescott. After they divorced while their sons were young, Peggy raised Dak and his two brothers outside Shreveport, Louisiana, while working two jobs. DallasCowboys.com reported that Peggy and Nathaniel divorced when their sons were young. Peggy raised Dak and his two brothers outside Shreveport while working two jobs. Dak recalled seeing her at work and sometimes going there to help. In his words, she was “a single mom raising three boys” and was “always at work.” DallasCowboys.com’s account of Peggy’s influence describes how her work shaped the family’s everyday life.
How Peggy influenced Dak’s work ethic and football career
ESPN reported that Peggy managed the I-220 Travel Plaza near Louisiana Downs. Dak connected his own approach to work with watching her: “Single mom, raising three boys, always at work, definitely,” he said. “We went to work to help her, spent a lot of time up at her work because that’s what she was doing. So definitely 90 percent came from that.” The quotation is from ESPN’s 2016 report on Peggy’s influence.
Peggy also supported Dak as a football player. ESPN reported that she attended every one of his high-school games and as many Mississippi State games as she could before illness kept her from attending. During his college recruitment, she wanted him to stay close to home but also wanted him to choose for himself, according to a 2017 DallasCowboys.com feature. Megan Mullen, wife of then-Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, praised Peggy’s role, saying, “There’s no question that he is who he is because of her. It really is amazing.” That is Mullen’s assessment, rather than a quote from Dak.

Nathaniel remained in Dak’s life after the divorce
A 2017 DallasCowboys.com profile described Nathaniel as continuing to be involved in Dak’s life after the divorce. He attended training camp in Oxnard for Dak’s 24th birthday. At the time, Nathaniel had moved from Austin, where he worked as a city bus driver, to Dallas; those are details reported in 2017, not confirmation of his current home or job.
Nathaniel described his son simply: “He hasn’t changed. He’s still Dak.” He also said he texted Dak before games with the message “Be Dak.” The 2017 profile identified Nathaniel as a lifelong Cowboys fan who grew up in Louisiana. It also reported that he played outside linebacker and defensive end at Grambling before injuries to both knees ended his football career.

When did Dak Prescott’s mother die?
Peggy died of colon cancer on November 3, 2013, after a year-and-a-half battle, according to ESPN’s 2016 report. ESPN also noted that she became too ill to attend Mississippi State games. The reporting establishes those details; it does not provide a basis for adding claims about her treatment or final days.
