Sean Connery and Roger Moore tie for the most James Bond screen appearances, with seven each—if non-EON productions are included. In the official EON theatrical series alone, Moore leads with seven films and Connery has six. The broad eight-person tally also includes David Niven in a non-EON film and Barry Nelson in a 1954 television adaptation, not a movie.
How the eight-actor ranking is counted
This ranking counts credited screen portrayals across the broad Bond roster, including productions outside EON’s official theatrical series. That means the list combines EON films, non-EON films and one television adaptation. It is a count of productions, not a ranking of the actors’ performances.
If you mean only the official EON theatrical series, there are six actors, and the order changes at the top: Roger Moore has seven films, while Sean Connery has six. The official James Bond 007 films catalog provides the series context; the figures below are counts of credited productions.
All eight actors, ranked by number of appearances
| Rank | Actor | Productions counted | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|
| T-1 | Sean Connery | 7 | Six EON films and the non-EON film Never Say Never Again (1983). |
| T-1 | Roger Moore | 7 | Seven EON films. |
| 3 | Daniel Craig | 5 | Five EON films, through No Time to Die (2021). |
| 4 | Pierce Brosnan | 4 | Four EON films. |
| 5 | Timothy Dalton | 2 | Two EON films. |
| T-6 | George Lazenby | 1 | One EON film: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969). |
| T-6 | David Niven | 1 | One non-EON film: Casino Royale (1967). |
| T-6 | Barry Nelson | 1 | One television adaptation: Casino Royale (1954), not a movie release. |
The title-by-title EON counts and non-EON entries can be cross-checked in the list of James Bond films. The broader screen roster, including Nelson’s television portrayal, is described by CinemaBlend’s overview of the eight actors.

Why some lists say six actors and others say eight
Both totals can be accurate because they use different boundaries. The six-actor count covers EON’s theatrical series. The eight-person screen roster adds Niven’s non-EON Casino Royale and Nelson’s 1954 television portrayal. Nelson is included when asking how many actors have played Bond on screen, but not when counting Bond movies.
Connery’s seventh appearance
Connery’s six EON films bring him level with Moore only when the non-EON Never Say Never Again is added. Moore’s seven counted appearances are all EON films, so the broad tally ties them at seven.

The one-appearance tie
Lazenby, Niven and Nelson each have one credited Bond portrayal in this count. Their entries are not interchangeable: Lazenby appeared in an EON theatrical film, Niven in a non-EON film, and Nelson in a television adaptation.
