The figure most often reported for Alexander McQueen is £16 million, but it refers to the value attributed to his estate in 2011 coverage of his will—not a current net-worth estimate or the value of the fashion house that bears his name. The reports said most of the estate was placed in trust for Sarabande.
What was Alexander McQueen’s reported net worth?
When people ask about Alexander McQueen’s net worth, the clearest documented figure is the £16 million estate value reported in 2011. The Guardian described him as leaving a £16 million fortune in its account of his will (The Guardian, July 26, 2011).
That is a historical reported estate value, not a fresh calculation of his assets and liabilities, a verified valuation today, or an estimate of the continuing Alexander McQueen business. The will reports do not establish what happened to the estate’s investments after 2011.
How the will reportedly distributed the estate
British Vogue’s account of the will described gifts to relatives, staff, charities, and a trust for McQueen’s dogs, with the majority of the estate placed in trust for Sarabande (British Vogue, July 27, 2011).

- £100,000 each for the Blue Cross, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, the London Buddhist Centre, and the Terrence Higgins Trust.
- The bulk of the estate in trust for Sarabande. The report said McQueen wanted it to consider grants or bursaries for students at Central Saint Martins.
The Guardian also reported £50,000 set aside for the upkeep of his dogs. These are reported provisions of the will, not a complete estate accounting or an independently recalculated total.
His estate is not the value of the Alexander McQueen fashion house
McQueen’s personal estate and the fashion business are different things. Kering’s official profile describes McQueen as a British luxury house founded by Lee Alexander McQueen in 1992; it notes Sarah Burton’s appointment in 2010 and Seán McGirr’s move into the creative-director role in 2024 (Kering’s McQueen profile). That corporate history does not provide a standalone financial valuation of the house.

A historical U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing says a 2001 Gucci Group arrangement gave Gucci Group a 51% stake and McQueen the remaining 49% (SEC filing, filed in 2004). That was the arrangement at that time; it should not be treated as the house’s current ownership split. The sources cited here do not establish a current standalone value for the fashion house or a new estimate of McQueen’s personal net worth.

In February 2010, Gucci Group said it would continue the brand. Its president and CEO, Robert Polet, stated: “I believe strongly in the Alexander McQueen brand and its future” (Gucci Group announcement, February 18, 2010).

The house’s ongoing activity is separate from the question of McQueen’s personal wealth. For example, Kering reported that the “Savage Beauty” retrospective at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art drew over 650,000 visitors in 2011 (Kering, 2011). That is an exhibition attendance figure, not a measure of his estate or the brand’s value.
