Amazon launched the feature on December 3, 2025, and still describes it as movie-focused; it requires Alexa+ and a movie the viewer can watch through Prime Video. It is not ordinary fast-forwarding, and Amazon does not promise frame-perfect results.
What Alexa+ scene jumping does
Instead of scrubbing along a timeline, you can ask Alexa+ to locate a scene in a Prime Video movie and start playback near it. The request can name the moment, describe its action, identify a character or actor, or quote a line. Amazon says the movie title is not always necessary, though a title can help when the clues are ambiguous.
Amazon’s examples include “Jump to the card scene in Love Actually,” “Jump to the scene in Red One where Santa flies over the city,” and “Jump to the boulder chase scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark.” You can also ask for the moment when John McClane says, “come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs.”
The feature is an AI-assisted retrieval layer over Prime Video information, not a new video format or a universal command for every streaming app. Amazon says it covers thousands of movies and tens of thousands of indexed scenes; that does not mean every title or moment is recognized. Amazon’s launch announcement describes the capability and examples.

How to ask Alexa+ to find a scene
- Open Prime Video on a Fire TV that supports Alexa+ and choose a movie you can watch through Prime Video.
- Press and hold the microphone or Alexa button on the remote, or use a hands-free Alexa interaction if your device supports it.
- Say “jump to the scene” and add a distinctive description, character, actor, quote, or combination of clues.
- Give Alexa+ a moment to identify the likely movie and scene, then let Fire TV open or resume playback at the matching point.
Button behavior and hands-free controls vary by device, remote, language, and settings; Amazon has not published one control path that applies to every Fire TV model.
Commands to try
- Describe the action: “Alexa, jump to the scene in Red One where Santa flies over the city.”
- Name a recognizable scene: “Alexa, jump to the Ozdust ballroom scene in Wicked with Glinda.”
- Use a character or quote: “Alexa, in The Dark Knight, jump to the scene where the Joker talks about scars.”
- Start without the title: “Alexa, what’s that movie where Bradley Cooper sings a duet? Jump to that scene.” Amazon gives a similar title-free example, but does not guarantee that every description will identify the right film.
How Alexa+ identifies the movie and moment
Alexa+ interprets the request, works out which movie and scene are likely to match, and sends Fire TV to that point in Prime Video. Amazon says the system combines Prime Video X-Ray information, visual understanding, captions, and AI models. Its announcement identifies Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Nova, and Anthropic Claude among the technologies involved.

That description does not mean Alexa+ watches every movie live or understands every scene like a person. It relies on available content information and scene indexing, so a vague description, an obscure moment, or similar scenes in different movies can produce a wrong match or no result.

What to do if it fails
If Alexa+ picks the wrong movie
Add the title, a character’s full name, the actor, a distinctive quote, or a second detail about the setting, costume, or action. For instance, a generic “dinner scene” is less useful than a title plus the character or event you remember.

If it cannot find the scene
- Check that the movie is playing through Prime Video, not another app or an unsupported channel.
- Make sure the title is included with Prime or that you have rented or purchased it through Prime Video.
- Try a more specific clue, or add the movie title.
- Check that Alexa+ is available on your account and that your Fire TV and Prime Video app are current.
- Consider whether the request is for a TV episode or an older device whose support has not been established.
These are practical checks based on Amazon’s stated requirements, not a list of official error codes. The feature depends on cloud-based conversational AI and content metadata, so results are not guaranteed to be deterministic.

If you already have Prime
In the U.S., Alexa+ is included at no additional cost for Prime members, so the key question is whether your Fire TV device supports it and whether you watch eligible Prime Video movies. Scene jumping is a useful convenience for a household that regularly revisits particular moments, but it is only one part of Alexa+.

If you do not have Prime
At Amazon’s U.S. Alexa+ price of $19.99 per month, subscribing just to jump to occasional movie scenes is difficult to justify. Consider whether you would also use Prime Video and the other Prime benefits. If you want only one occasional movie, compare the current rental or purchase option with the cost of joining a broader service; the price of Prime itself is not stated here because it can change.
If you are considering a new Fire TV
Do not replace a working compatible device solely for this feature. A new Fire TV is easier to justify if you also want to replace aging hardware, improve your television or streaming setup, or use the newer interface and other Alexa+ capabilities. Amazon’s announced product-line launch prices included $39.99 for the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and starting prices of $159.99 for 2-Series TVs, $329.99 for 4-Series TVs, and $479.99 for the Omni QLED line. For a documentary viewer, the practical value depends on the movies you actually watch: it may quickly retrieve a memorable sequence in an eligible Prime Video film, but it is not a way to search scenes across every documentary service or guarantee a match for every moment.
