Later coverage reported an on-air apology from Redknapp and a £10,000 donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital, but does not establish that Sugar filed a lawsuit or that the matter was formally settled.
What did Jamie Redknapp say about Alan Sugar?
On 13 September 2025, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was discussing Daniel Levy’s departure as Tottenham chairman. He credited Levy with improving the club’s training ground, facilities, infrastructure and stadium, saying Levy had “done a great job.” Redknapp then contrasted that with Tottenham’s condition when Sugar left, saying: “you think back to how Alan Sugar left the club, it was a complete mess.” The Guardian’s report reproduced the broadcast remarks.
The comments came on the day Tottenham beat West Ham 3–0. Redknapp’s criticism was about the club’s state when Sugar left, in contrast to his praise of Levy’s work; it was not a separate discussion of Sugar’s business career.
How did Alan Sugar respond?
Sugar, Tottenham’s former chairman and co-owner, responded on X. In a post reproduced by The Guardian, he said Redknapp and Sky would hear from his lawyers on Monday. The post called Redknapp an “idiot” and disputed his account of the club’s condition. Sugar then posted: “I am coming after you Jamie Redknapp idiot.”

Did Alan Sugar sue Jamie Redknapp or Sky?
The available reports establish that Sugar threatened legal action, not that he sued. The follow-up reporting does not establish that proceedings were filed, settled or adjudicated. The subsequent report of an apology and donation also does not confirm a formal settlement or legal resolution.

Did Jamie Redknapp apologize?
Later coverage by The Telegraph reported that Redknapp apologized during Sky Sports coverage and that a £10,000 donation had been made to Great Ormond Street Hospital “by way of a further apology.” That report does not establish that the donation was part of a legal settlement. It also does not show that a court case was brought or resolved.
