At a July 26, 2026, Reacher panel at San Diego Comic-Con, he said the conversations concerned “another character.” That character has not been named, and the reports do not confirm a casting or agreement.
Is Alan Ritchson the DCU Batman?
There is no confirmed casting announcement in the cited reports. Ritchson said he did not think Batman was in the cards for him, even as he left open the possibility of a future change. His remarks point to conversations about an unnamed character, not a confirmed Batman role.
What did Ritchson say, and when?
July 23: upbeat comments on a podcast
On Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ritchson said, “James Gunn and I have spoken, a lot.” He said he wanted to work with Gunn and believed Gunn wanted to work with him, describing a “bright future” and “broad” horizons. When asked whether he had a DC character in mind, he said yes. After Horowitz said, “And it’s not Batman,” Ritchson replied, “The future is bright, and the horizons are broad. Anything is possible for any of us.” SuperHeroHype reported the podcast remarks on July 23; they were suggestive, not a casting announcement.
July 26: a more direct Batman clarification
At the Reacher panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Ritchson said, “I’ve had a lot of conversations with DC about what to do, because we would like to work together.” He then added: “Never say never. Maybe Batman is the future, but I don’t think it is, because we’re having conversations about another character.” He ended: “I just don’t think Batman is in the cards for me, as much as I would love to do it.” Popverse’s panel coverage reported the remarks and noted there was no casting news for him to share.

What is the other DC character?
Ritchson has not named the character in the cited coverage. Popverse’s later report, published August 20, described the role as undisclosed and treated the remarks as discussion of a potential role—not confirmation that he had been cast. The status of negotiations and any agreement also remain undisclosed in these reports. Read Popverse’s August 20 coverage.
Ritchson has previously played Aquaman on Smallville and Hawk on Titans, according to Popverse. Those earlier parts establish a history with DC screen adaptations; they do not identify a future DCU role.

Why did Batman rumors grow?
The July 23 podcast comments were broad and upbeat, and the exchange about whether Ritchson had a DC character in mind left room for speculation. Headlines describing the remarks as a hopeful update captured their tone, not a confirmed Batman casting. The July 26 panel statement was more specific: Ritchson said he did not think Batman was the role because the conversations concerned someone else.
Fan casting and online speculation should not be mistaken for a DC Studios shortlist. The July 23 report described the Batman names circulating online as unverified rumors and said The Brave and the Bold had no official release window at that time. See SuperHeroHype’s rumor-context report.

Is Alan Ritchson joining the DCU?
Ritchson said he and DC had discussed working together, which indicates a possible collaboration was under discussion. The most precise reading is that conversations took place; what, if anything, will come of them is not established by those reports.
