What does the lifetime achievement award recognize?
The ACM’s stated criteria extend beyond hit records. The honor may recognize an artist, duo, or group for national and international prominence and stature demonstrated through concert performances, philanthropy, record sales, streaming numbers, and public representation. The recipient should also have positively influenced country music’s growth and made an unprecedented historical impact on fans and the industry, both nationally and internationally.

The award is distinct from a competitive category trophy: it is a special honor, and future recipients will be selected when the ACM Special Awards Committee determines it is appropriate. The announcement does not establish that it will be presented every year.
Why was Alan Jackson selected?
MCA’s announcement points to Jackson’s decades-long career and his influence on country music. It reports that he had earned 21 ACM Awards before receiving the new honor: 17 competitive trophies and five special awards. The same announcement lists four Single of the Year wins, three Album of the Year wins, and three Top Male Vocalist wins, and notes that he received the ACM Poet’s Award for songwriting. Those category figures are part of the label’s account of his awards history.

At the presentation, Jackson reflected on his arrival in Nashville: “I came to Nashville with a paper sack full of songs and a crazy dream, and all these years later [to be] standing here receiving such an honor like this is just mind-blowing.”
