Alan Hamel confirmed in June 2025 that he was dating actor Joanna Cassidy, who appeared alongside his late wife, Suzanne Somers, in Hollywood Wives. Hamel said he and Cassidy had known each other for decades, but described their earlier connection as friendly rather than romantic. The latest located public update, from February 2026, reported that the relationship was still going strong; its status on October 7, 2026, has not been verified.
What Alan Hamel has said about dating Joanna Cassidy
Hamel publicly confirmed the relationship in June 2025. In a Fox News interview, he said he and Cassidy had known each other for more than 45 years. He recalled that she had appeared as a guest on The Alan Hamel Show in Canada during the 1970s, and said their connection then was based on liking and respect, not romance. Fox News reported Hamel’s account.
Hamel said his son helped reconnect them. The account of that reconnection comes from Hamel and the outlets reporting his remarks; the public reports establish that they were dating by June 2025, not precisely when the relationship began.
How Cassidy was connected to Suzanne Somers
Cassidy and Somers appeared together in Hollywood Wives, according to June 2025 reporting by Us Weekly. That shared credit explains why Cassidy is described as Somers’ former costar; it does not indicate that the two women’s professional connection was the reason Hamel and Cassidy began dating.

What Hamel has said about Somers’ reaction
In an interview with Woman’s World, Hamel said Cassidy was his “sole date” and that he believed Somers would be happy he was spending time with her. That is Hamel’s understanding of what Somers might have felt, not a statement from Somers about his current relationship. Woman’s World published his remarks.
