In his first interview after waking from a coma, R&B singer Al B. Sure! described collapsing in a recording studio, being placed on a ventilator and receiving a new liver. The FOX 5 New York interview, covered by Entertainment Tonight on December 17, 2022, also captured his reflections on relearning everyday abilities. The duration was reported differently in a later account, so the figures should be attributed to their sources.
What Al B. Sure! said in his first interview
In the FOX 5 New York interview, Al B. Sure! recalled collapsing while working in a studio and being taken to a hospital. As reported by Entertainment Tonight on December 17, 2022, he said he was intubated, placed on a ventilator and received a new liver. He described remembering being placed in a hospital bed, then next realizing it was October rather than July.
His account focused not only on the severity of the hospitalization but on the ordinary functions he had come to value. In the interview, he said: “What people don’t truly understand — unless you’ve been through this type of medical journey — is taking for granted breathing, tying your shoes, speaking.”
What was reported about the coma, and when
The public accounts describe the event at different points in time and use different wording for its duration. They do not establish one reconciled timeline.

What the accounts establish—and what they do not
Al B. Sure!’s interview is a personal account of a serious hospitalization and recovery. The coverage reports that he received a new liver, but the November 2022 confirmation did not name a diagnosis. These reports alone do not establish a diagnosis or provide a basis for medical advice.
