Josh and Lauren Capelin’s documentary project After School has won the inaugural ShowdownDOC, according to a FilmInk announcement published on 13 September 2026. The project was reported to have received the highest score from all four judges, and will receive a production budget of over $100,000 alongside industry support.
What ShowdownDOC provides
ShowdownDOC is a Sunshine Coast initiative intended to help emerging and established filmmakers develop documentary stories from concept to screen through mentorship, development support and production funding. It is open to filmmakers based on the Sunshine Coast.
The winning project is set to receive a production budget of over $100,000. The announcement also says it will benefit from support through the initiative’s partner and mentor network; it does not state an exact budget or a production schedule.
How the inaugural selection worked
Four finalist teams were selected from local entrants. Each received a one-on-one consultation with documentary producer Bettina Dalton of WildBear Entertainment and an invitation to consult with an SBS Factual Commissioning Editor.
