CBS Sports’ event-day predictions split on the Lights Out Steel Cage match: Brent Brookhouse picked Swerve Strickland, while Shakiel Mahjouri chose Hangman Page. Both writers expected AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson to retain against Jack Perry. The results later matched Mahjouri on the cage match and both writers on the title bout.
What was on the All Out 2024 card?
AEW advertised All Out 2024 for the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Its preview listed five championship matches, the Daniel Garcia–MJF grudge match, and a Lights Out Steel Cage match between Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland. The advertised schedule was Zero Hour at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT, followed by the pay-per-view at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. Those were event-day timings, not current schedule information. The card was still developing in the build. An August 29 Pro Wrestling Dot Net report listed Page–Strickland, Will Ospreay–PAC, Willow Nightingale–Kris Statlander, and MJF–Daniel Garcia, while describing Danielson–Perry as likely but not official. AEW’s later preview advertised Danielson–Perry for the World Championship. Pro Wrestling Dot Net’s August 29 card report
Hangman Page vs. Swerve Strickland: the split prediction

Their disagreement turned on two different ways of reading the feud: immediate momentum versus the value of extending a rivalry. CBS Sports’ event-day predictions

Why Brookhouse picked Strickland
Strickland had lost the AEW World Championship two weeks earlier. Brookhouse reasoned that a promotion with strong confidence in Strickland would be unlikely to have him lose two major matches in such a short span. That was Brookhouse’s judgment about booking momentum, not a report of insider knowledge.
Why Mahjouri picked Page
Mahjouri focused on Page’s repeated failures against Strickland. In his view, a Page victory would give the ongoing feud more life. It was a case for the story value of a reversal, rather than a claim that Page was certain to win.

Danielson vs. Perry: both writers backed the champion
Brookhouse and Mahjouri both picked Bryan Danielson to retain the AEW World Championship against Jack Perry. Brookhouse’s rationale, as presented in the CBS preview, centered on the timing and stakes: Danielson had won the championship only two weeks earlier, and he had connected losing the title with his stated plan to stop wrestling full-time. CBS described Perry as an interesting first challenger but viewed a Perry victory so soon after Danielson’s title win as implausible. These were predictions, not guarantees.

AEW’s official results recap records that Danielson defeated Perry and retained the AEW World Championship, so both CBS picks were correct. It also records that Page defeated Strickland: Mahjouri’s pick was correct, and Brookhouse’s was not. AEW’s official All Out 2024 results

The Page–Strickland finish was not a conventional pinfall. AEW describes Page using a hypodermic needle and then striking Strickland with a chair before the referee called for the bell.
