The online backlash focused in part on illustrations that appeared to single out women and on whether comparable expectations applied to men. The park’s currently published guidance discourages some revealing styles, while its terms prohibit specified styles and set a separate close-fitting rule for waterslides.
Why Adventure World faced online criticism in 2019
In October 2019, Adventure World posted a guideline about bather bottoms, prompting criticism of how the examples were illustrated and questions about whether men’s swimwear faced the same standard. The West Australian reported more than 6,500 comments and 900 shares on the post; those are figures reported by the newspaper, not independently audited platform totals. The West Australian’s 2019 account described the reaction.
Some commenters objected to the idea of having to buy different swimwear to visit the park. Others questioned whether men could wear swim briefs commonly called “budgie smugglers.” That question is evidence of the debate, not proof of how the park applied the guideline in practice. PerthNow’s coverage records criticism of the images and the questions about men’s swimwear.
What the park said about gender
In a statement quoted in contemporaneous reporting, Adventure World said: “Let’s not confuse the issue. This update is about dress standards and dress standards only. It is not gender specific.” The park also said the change aligned with other parks nationwide, that it kept informed of industry trends, and that it apologized to people who took offence. These are the park’s reported explanations, not independent findings about how the guideline was enforced. The West Australian and 7NEWS reported the response.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The controversy therefore involved both the stated intent of the rule and the way it was presented. The park described the standard as gender-neutral; critics challenged the apparent focus of the illustrations and asked about comparable treatment of men. The available reporting does not establish a systematic comparison of enforcement by gender.
What Adventure World’s published rules say now
Adventure World’s current FAQ says the family theme park discourages G-string, V-string, Brazilian, or similar styles of bathers. Its terms and conditions say swimwear must be suitable for a family environment and that G-string, V-string, or similar styles are not permitted. The FAQ’s softer “discourages” wording and the terms’ prohibition are not identical, so both are relevant when reading the park’s current guidance.

These are the rules currently published by the park; they do not establish how consistently the 2019 guideline was enforced, whether it produced a legal finding, or whether the specific 2019 social-media post was formally rescinded.

What the record does—and does not—show
The 2019 coverage documents a public dispute about gender neutrality, visual presentation, and men’s swimwear. The park’s current pages explain its written expectations today. Neither the contemporary articles nor those pages establish a gender-by-gender enforcement record or the outcome of any legal challenge. It is therefore possible to describe the park’s stated intent and current published rules, but not to conclude from these sources how consistently the policy was applied in individual cases.
