Adam Sandler said the line about “finding out your favorite musician is antisemitic” was not aimed at one specific musician. Asked about it months after performing the song at Saturday Night Live’s 50th-anniversary special, he told Vulture: “I can’t say a specific, because sadly there’s been a few.”
What Sandler said about the lyric
In an interview published August 25, 2025, Vulture staff writer Hershal Pandya asked Sandler about the song’s reference to discovering that a favorite musician is antisemitic. Sandler replied: “Well, you know, whoever wants to grab that one, it’s up to them. I can’t say a specific, because sadly there’s been a few.”

His answer did not identify a target. Sandler said he could not name one specific musician and acknowledged that there had been multiple cases.
Was the lyric about Kanye West?
Sandler did not confirm that it was about West. The Daily Beast reported that West appeared to associate himself with the lyric, posting a since-deleted message thanking Sandler for the “love.” That reported reaction is separate from Sandler’s later clarification: he declined to name a particular person.

Where the line appeared
Sandler performed “50 Years,” a guitar song reflecting on SNL history, during the show’s 50th-anniversary special on February 16, 2025. TIME described the performance as a tribute to the program’s five decades. Sandler co-wrote the song with Dan Bulla, an SNL writer and frequent collaborator, according to Vulture.
The lyric, public speculation about West, and Sandler’s later response are three distinct parts of the story: the line itself did not name anyone; reporting said West seemed to take it personally; and Sandler said he was not naming one specific musician.
