The practical Mac setup is a third-party wrapper such as Ace Link, which runs the engine in Docker and sends the resulting stream to VLC.
Use only content IDs or links supplied by broadcasters, rights holders, leagues, schools, public institutions, or another authorized distributor. Ace Stream is a transport technology; it does not make an individual broadcast lawful.
What Ace Stream does
Ace Stream uses peer-to-peer technology derived from the BitTorrent model. The engine joins the peer network, retrieves and reassembles the stream, and exposes a local playback feed. A player such as VLC then decodes that feed.
- Engine: connects to peers and builds the stream.
- Player: opens the engine’s local HTTP output.
- Output: commonly MPEG-TS or HLS.
- Identifiers: a content ID, infohash, transport-file URL, or magnet link.

Is there an official Ace Stream app for Mac?
The current official product matrix does not show a native macOS desktop client. Ace Stream’s desktop engine documentation focuses on Windows and Linux, while the newer Ace Stream application and Engine listings target Android and Android TV. That does not mean Ace Stream cannot be used on macOS: it means the documented route is indirect.
Your choices are a Docker-based Mac wrapper, a manually operated Docker engine, or an engine running on a separate Windows or Linux computer. Ace Link is separate open-source software, not an official Ace Stream macOS application.
What you need on macOS
- macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later, which is the requirement published for Ace Link.
- Docker Desktop installed and running.
- VLC, available from VideoLAN.
- A lawful Ace Stream link or content ID.
- Enough network capacity for peer-to-peer download and possible upload traffic, plus local resources for buffering and cache activity.
Docker Desktop is available from Docker. Ace Link’s Docker workflow and requirements are described on its Docker Hub page.
Method 1: Ace Link, Docker and VLC
Install the prerequisites
- Install Docker Desktop from Docker’s official site and wait until Docker reports that it is running.
- Install VLC from VideoLAN.
Install Ace Link
If you already use Homebrew, the cask command is:
brew install --cask ace-linkHomebrew listed Ace Link as version 2.1.0 and marked the cask deprecated when checked, with a planned disable date of September 1, 2026. That status can change. If the command is unavailable, download the application from the project’s official releases page instead.

For a manual install, download the release, move Ace Link to /Applications, and launch it. The release is unsigned, so macOS may warn that it cannot verify the developer. Confirm that the file came from the official repository, then use Finder’s right-click Open. If needed, approve it under System Settings → Privacy & Security. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally or use a modified mirror.
Open a stream
- Start Docker Desktop.
- Launch Ace Link from the menu bar.
- Paste the Ace Stream hash or content ID, or open an
acestream://link if its protocol association is working. - Ace Link starts the engine container.
- Ace Link hands the local stream to VLC.
- Wait while the engine discovers peers and builds a buffer.
A successful session normally shows VLC opening after the engine has started; initial buffering time depends on the source and available peers.
Method 2: Run an Ace Stream Docker proxy directly
Technical users can run a documented third-party proxy without the Ace Link menu-bar interface:

They are not interchangeable with every Ace Stream API syntax: the official API describes inputs such as content_id, infohash, url, or magnet. Consult the official API documentation and the proxy project instructions for the endpoint you are using.
Open the local feed in VLC
- In VLC, choose File → Open Network or Media → Open Network Stream; wording varies by VLC release.
- Paste the local HLS or MPEG-TS URL.
- Choose Open or Play.
- If playback repeatedly stalls, increase VLC’s network-caching value in its advanced settings.
IINA or another macOS player that accepts HLS or MPEG-TS may also work, but compatibility depends on the player and stream output.
Apple silicon: M-series Macs need an architecture check
Do not assume every Docker image that works on Intel also works on Apple silicon. Ace Link release notes document Apple-silicon fixes involving target-platform selection and Docker’s Virtualization Framework. Use a project release that explicitly documents your Mac architecture and confirm Docker is using the Virtualization Framework.
The third-party HTTP proxy states that ARM-based CPUs are not currently supported. If that limitation applies to your chosen image, use an image with documented ARM support, an Intel Mac, a compatible remote Windows or Linux machine, or an authorized conventional streaming service.

Use only authorized channels and sports links
A content ID being publicly posted does not establish that the broadcast is licensed. Use links supplied by the broadcaster, rights holder, league, team, school, public institution, or another service authorized in your location. Do not rely on scraped “free sports” directories or links that clearly redirect to unauthorized broadcasts.
Ace Stream’s user agreement requires users to have the corresponding rights to reproduce or save content. Its license information also explains that streamed data may be cached temporarily. Check local law, the broadcaster’s terms, and any geographic restrictions. Because the system is peer-to-peer, your connection may upload data to other peers as well as download it.
Security and network precautions
- Download software only from
acestream.org, the Ace Link GitHub repository, the relevant maintained Docker Hub or GitHub project, VideoLAN, Docker, or Homebrew. - Treat unofficial “Ace Stream for Mac” DMG files as high risk.
- Keep port
6878local unless you understand firewalling, authentication, and remote exposure. - Do not enable remote-access settings such as
ALLOW_REMOTE_ACCESS=yesas a default. Remote deployment changes the security posture. - Avoid random containers that request host-volume access or unnecessary privileges.
- Keep macOS, Docker Desktop, VLC, and the wrapper updated where compatible.
- Peer traffic can consume upload bandwidth. ISP throttling, router behavior, VPN routing, few peers, or insufficient Docker resources can all affect playback.
Troubleshooting

Alternatives to Ace Stream on a Mac
Official broadcaster or league service
This is usually the better choice when reliability, customer support, authorized access, and television compatibility matter. Subscription, pay-per-view, or regional eligibility may apply.
VLC or IINA for ordinary streams
These players can open conventional network streams, but they do not replace the Ace Stream engine. They are playback layers, not peer-network retrieval engines.

A remote engine
Running the engine on a supported Windows or Linux computer can suit a home server or NAS owner. Remote access requires deliberate firewall and authentication configuration; it is not a one-click Mac solution.
Kodi and other media centers
Ace Stream’s product page lists Kodi among recommended third-party products, but Kodi does not itself guarantee a licensed sports source or automatically provide an Ace Stream engine. See the official product listing for the current relationship.
Is Ace Stream worth using on macOS?
Ace Stream is worth considering if you are comfortable with Docker, understand peer-to-peer networking, and have an authorized source. Ace Link is the most approachable Mac workflow, while direct Docker is more flexible for technical users. It is a poor fit if you expect a signed, one-click native app or guaranteed legal sports access; an official broadcaster is generally simpler and more dependable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does VLC play an Ace Stream link by itself?
No. VLC is the playback layer. An Ace Stream engine or compatible Docker proxy must first retrieve the peer-network stream and expose a local HLS or MPEG-TS feed.
Does Ace Link work on Apple silicon?
Some Ace Link releases document Apple-silicon fixes, but compatibility also depends on Docker and the engine image. Verify the release notes and image architecture for your Mac.
What does port 6878 do?
In the documented Docker proxy workflow, port 6878 exposes the engine’s local HTTP interface. Keep it bound to localhost unless you have configured remote security deliberately.
Does Ace Stream require a VPN?
No. A VPN is not required and is not a guaranteed buffering fix; it can add latency, reduce throughput, or interfere with peer discovery.
