A seven-month-old girl was found in a yard in Dyer County, Tennessee, on July 29, 2025. Later that day, four of her relatives were found dead in nearby Lake County. Authorities charged Austin Robert Drummond in connection with the killings and the child’s abduction; the charges remain allegations, not a conviction.
What happened on July 29, 2025?
At about 3:11 p.m. local time, a witness found the infant in a car seat in a yard on Old Highway 20 near Tigrett, in Dyer County. The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office said a caller reported seeing a vehicle drop off the child. The office described it as “a dark-colored minivan or a white mid-size SUV,” according to contemporaneous reporting reproducing PEOPLE coverage.
Later that night, authorities found four people dead near Carrington Road in Tiptonville, Lake County, about 25 miles from where the baby had been found. The Dyer and Lake County sheriff’s offices, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, and other agencies investigated the incidents as connected. The Associated Press report carried by The Tri-City Record described the connection and distance.
Who were the four people found dead?
Officials identified the victims as Cortney Rose, Matthew Wilson, Adrianna Williams, and 15-year-old Braydon Williams. District Attorney General Danny Goodman Jr. confirmed that they were related to the infant. Reporting identified Wilson and Adrianna Williams as the child’s parents, Rose as her grandmother, and Braydon as her uncle, according to WREG reporting carried by AOL.

A Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals opinion issued January 12, 2026, addressed Drummond’s extraordinary appeal of a pretrial transfer to state custody; it did not decide whether he committed the crimes. As of a WBBJ-TV report published July 29, 2026, the homicide charges remained pending and no trial date had been set. Court scheduling can change.

The reviewed reporting does not establish why the killings occurred or why the child was left at that particular yard. Officials’ account of a vehicle seen dropping her off does not, by itself, establish who was in the vehicle or the reason for leaving her there. No confirmed motive is established in the cited reports, so assigning one would be speculation.
