The official trailer for 28 Years Later introduced a new story in the world of 28 Days Later, with Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson among an ensemble cast led by a survivor community isolated from the mainland. Sony announced the trailer and three posters on December 9, 2024, and originally scheduled the film to open in U.S. theaters on June 20, 2025.

When one member of the group leaves the island on a mission, the journey brings them into contact with infected people who have changed and with other survivors. The setup shifts the story from the protected settlement to the dangers and competing human interests beyond it.
