Aaron Rodgers’ distance from his parents and brothers became public in 2016, but he has described it as the result of years of family history rather than one defining incident. In September 2026, Rodgers said he had met with his parents and both brothers after a long period apart, describing the conversations as difficult but meaningful. The public record shows renewed contact—not proof that every tension has been resolved.
Who are Aaron Rodgers’ parents and brothers?
Rodgers’ parents are Ed and Darla Rodgers. His older brothers are Luke and Jordan. Jordan’s appearance on The Bachelorette in 2016 brought the family’s distance into public view; Luke has also spoken publicly about missing his brother.
When did Aaron Rodgers become estranged from his family?
Later reporting places the start of Rodgers’ extended lack of contact with his immediate family around the 2014 holiday season. In 2016, Jordan said on The Bachelorette that he and Aaron did not have much of a relationship. Coverage of the hometown episode also recalled two empty chairs, a visible sign of Aaron’s absence. In 2017, their father, Ed, told The New York Times that Aaron had not spoken with the family since late 2014, as recounted in later coverage.
Why was Aaron Rodgers estranged from his family?
There is no single, mutually agreed public explanation. Rodgers has described years of accumulated distance, changing relationships, and the effects of fame. In the 2024 Netflix series Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, he said he had not been especially close with everyone in his family and traced the distance to experiences in high school, college, and the years afterward. The series discusses religious differences, sibling rivalry, and his prominence, but these are presented through Rodgers’ perspective—not as a settled account shared by every relative.

In a September 2026 interview, Rodgers said some family members did not understand what it was like to have a very famous son or brother, and that fame changed relationships. He also felt that relatives had spoken publicly without knowing the full story. Those are his characterizations of the conflict, not independently established conclusions about what each person believed.
His parents’ account is not identical to his. Ed spoke with biographer Ian O’Connor and, in TIME’s account, rejected the characterization that the family was rigid or that religion caused the divide. TIME also reported that Enigma tells Rodgers’ side of the story and that its filmmakers did not seek family members’ participation. The series is therefore useful for understanding what Rodgers says, but it is not a complete family record.

How did Aaron Rodgers and his family begin reconnecting?
The 2023 meeting with his father
According to reporting on O’Connor’s biography, Ed attended a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe in July 2023 hoping to see his son. Rodgers spotted him, approached him, and the two embraced and told each other they loved one another. Rodgers later called it “a special moment.” Earlier, he had said he loved his father and had no animosity toward him, adding, “I would like a relationship with my dad for sure.”
Family appearances in 2026
In April 2026, the Los Angeles Times reported that Rodgers invited his parents to his Pleasant Valley High School Hall of Fame induction and introduced them to the audience. In July, he posted photos with Ed, Darla, and Luke, captioned “Another bonding week,” with the hashtag #fam. Luke responded with heart emojis. Luke had previously spoken about the pain of not having a relationship with Aaron, saying, “we miss our brother.”

He credited his wife, Brittani, with helping him become open to those conversations, while saying she did not push him into reconciliation.

Rodgers’ account and the reported family appearances show renewed contact with his parents and both brothers. The most accurate description is that the family has taken steps toward reconnecting after years of distance, with some difficult conversations still part of the process.
