She describes the storyline as “very delicate” and says the actors’ on-camera connection grew from an awkward start into greater comfort.
What Paulina Chávez said about Ariana and Cooper
Chávez, who plays Ariana, called the role “a very specific character” and said “her storyline is very delicate in the circumstances.” In a cast interview with Creative Screenwriting, published April 30, 2026, she explained that she wanted Taylor Sheridan’s vision to come through while also bringing her own perspective as a Latina to the character.

That balance is central to how Chávez describes the work: honoring the direction of the series without treating Ariana as a generic role. Her comments concern the actors’ approach to the character and relationship, not a confirmation of where the story ultimately leads.
How the actors built trust for the relationship
Chávez and Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris, discussed where Sheridan wanted the characters to go. Chávez recalled, “We both talked to Taylor and we knew where he wanted these characters.” She also described checking in with Lofland during emotionally heavy work and building trust with him and the creative team.

She said their on-camera dynamic did not begin as effortless intimacy: “What really helped is that our relationship started off a little clumsy, it was a little awkward and trying to find our footing.” As they worked together, she said, they became more comfortable. That progression gives a practical sense of the performers’ process: the connection viewers see was developed over time rather than assumed from the outset.
How the relationship is framed in season 2
Season 2 coverage describes Ariana and Cooper as picking up where their story left off and continuing to navigate their relationship. Chávez called it “a very delicate storyline that is so beautiful and gives you so much hope,” adding that the actors had many conversations about how they wanted to portray the bond. That is the performers’ description of the relationship’s tone, not a guarantee of a specific romantic or plot outcome.
Spoiler notice: The following discussion refers to season 2 relationship context. Chávez’s comments characterize the storyline as delicate and hopeful, but the cited interview material does not establish the characters’ ultimate fate.
