A Peek Inside Robert De Niro’s Reported Real Estate Portfolio

Robert De Niro’s reported real-estate story is centered on New York, but it spans very different ties to property: an inherited Montauk beach house, a large upstate estate, former homes, rental residences, a London apartment reported sold, and an interest in a hotel. Architectural Digest’s July 2026 and Realtor.com’s August 2026 accounts do not establish a complete, title-verified list of what he owns today, so the properties below are identified by their reported histories and status.

How to read the reported portfolio

“Portfolio” does not mean that every address in these accounts is a current personal residence or an asset still owned by De Niro. The reports mix inherited property, reported purchases and sales, rentals, a former shared home, and a hotel business interest. The figures and descriptions below are attributed to Architectural Digest or Realtor.com; they have not been independently confirmed through deeds or a full public-record review.

Property Reported relationship and timing What the reports describe
Montauk, New York Inherited after his father’s death in 1993; present ownership not independently verified Beachfront house on about 1.5 acres
Gardiner, New York De Niro and Grace Hightower reportedly acquired the property in 1997 Farmhouse estate described as totaling 123 acres after an adjacent parcel was acquired
West Village, Manhattan Reportedly bought in 1975 and sold by De Niro in 2012; later sold in 2021 Italianate townhouse, subsequently renovated and offered for rent in later reporting
Central Park West, Manhattan Reportedly bought by De Niro and Hightower in 2006; Hightower sold it in March 2025 Fifth-floor apartment and former shared residence
Southwark, London Reportedly bought in 2001 and sold before a 2018 relisting; exact sale date unclear Two-bedroom loft in a converted jam factory
Greenwich Hotel, Manhattan Reported hotel business interest; opened in 2008 Hotel with a penthouse suite available to guests

Montauk: an inherited beach house

Architectural Digest reports that De Niro inherited the Montauk property from his father, painter Robert De Niro Sr., after his father died in 1993. The 2026 account describes a 2,278-square-foot house on roughly 1.5 beachfront acres, with about 740 square feet of decking. Realtor.com describes the house as built in 1950 and reports that a 2017 application to demolish and rebuild was denied. Neither account, as summarized here, independently establishes the property’s present owner or condition.

Gardiner: the large upstate estate

Architectural Digest and Realtor.com report that De Niro and Grace Hightower acquired the Gardiner property in 1997 for $1.5 million. Architectural Digest describes a 2,222-square-foot main house on 78 acres. Realtor.com says De Niro later acquired an adjoining 45-acre parcel, bringing the reported total to 123 acres. Those dimensions and parcel details are outlet-reported figures, not independently checked measurements.

The accounts describe a renovated farmhouse and additional structures, including guest buildings and a 14,000-square-foot recreation barn. Reported amenities include a gym, boxing and game rooms, a small film studio, offices, a tennis court, and a ski slope. These descriptions come from the outlets’ coverage and should not be read as a verified inventory of current features.

The reported assessment dispute

Realtor.com recounts a dispute over the assessment of the trust holding the estate. In its account, the trust challenged a $6 million assessment; the town reportedly raised the figure to $9 million after an inspection, and the matter ended with agreement to the original $6 million valuation and payment of $129,000 in town legal fees. This is a secondary report of a legal and assessment matter, not a substitute for the underlying court or town records.

Manhattan: former homes and reported rentals

West Village townhouse

Architectural Digest reports that De Niro bought a 5,000-square-foot Italianate townhouse in 1975 for $190,000 and sold it in 2012 for $9.5 million. Realtor.com reports that it was listed again in 2019 for $22.8 million and sold in 2021 for $11.98 million. The 2026 coverage describes the house as offered for rent at $75,000 per month, but rental availability can change. The later restoration and passive-house features in Realtor.com’s account refer to subsequent work and listing material, not necessarily to the property during De Niro’s ownership.

Central Park West apartment

Architectural Digest reports that De Niro and Hightower bought a fifth-floor Central Park West apartment in 2006 for $20.9 million. The family was away when a 2012 fire extensively damaged the apartment. According to Architectural Digest, Hightower sold the 5,800-square-foot unit in March 2025 for $18 million. It is a former shared residence, not evidence of De Niro’s current address.

Temporary rental homes

Architectural Digest says De Niro and Hightower rented a Greenwich Village duplex penthouse for about two years after the Central Park West fire. The outlet describes it as having 11,000 square feet indoors and 5,200 square feet of outdoor space, and says it sold in 2018. It also reports that De Niro rented a 6,000-square-foot full-floor Upper West Side apartment in 2012 for $125,000 per month; the apartment returned to the market by 2014. These were reported rental episodes, not reported purchases.

London: the Southwark loft

Architectural Digest reports that De Niro paid £750,000—described by the outlet as about $1 million at the time—in 2001 for a two-bedroom, 2,100-square-foot loft in a converted jam factory in Southwark. The exact date he sold it is unclear. Architectural Digest says the apartment was back on the market in 2018 for a reported $2.16 million, and Realtor.com also says De Niro had sold it before that relisting. The 2018 listing is not evidence that he still owned the loft then.

The Greenwich Hotel: a business interest, not simply a home

Architectural Digest describes De Niro as a partial owner of The Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca. Realtor.com reports that the hotel opened in 2008 in partnership with Ira Drukier, Richard Born, and De Niro’s son Raphael, and describes an 88-room property with a restaurant. The partnership details and room count are reported by that outlet, rather than independently verified here.

The hotel’s 6,800-square-foot, three-bedroom penthouse is described as a guest suite available to visitors. Architectural Digest says Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt and Japanese architect Tatsuro Miki designed it in 2014. Its place in the story is as hotel accommodation connected with a reported business interest, not proof of a personal residence.

What the reports establish—and what they do not

Taken together, the July 2026 Architectural Digest feature and August 2026 Realtor.com feature portray a property history with a strong New York focus, alongside the London loft and the Greenwich Hotel connection. They do not establish a comprehensive, current ownership list: the accounts combine past and present-tense descriptions, and no deed, corporate-ownership, assessment, or live rental and booking inventory review is reflected in those reports. Treat individual purchase prices, acreage, dimensions, and status as attributed reporting rather than verified current market values or proof of current ownership.
