The clearest confirmed cameos in A Minecraft Movie are Minecraft creators Mumbo Jumbo, DanTDM, and Aphmau. Beyond those appearances, the film draws on Minecraft’s crafting and survival logic; director Jared Hess says the crew checked that its designed objects could be built in the game. Some other details are visual influences or fan interpretations, not confirmed Easter eggs.
What counts as a confirmed Easter egg?
There is no exhaustive official, frame-by-frame list of Easter eggs. It helps to separate four kinds of details: game mechanics or items that can be checked against Minecraft, creator cameos confirmed by the director, film influences identified by the cinematographer, and fan interpretations that have not been confirmed.

The official premise places Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn in the Overworld after they pass through a portal. With Steve’s help, they must survive and protect it from Piglins and Zombies. The film is a live-action adaptation based on Minecraft, and its story draws directly on the game’s vocabulary of crafting, survival, and building. The official movie site credits Mojang Studios among the production entities.
Which Minecraft creators cameo in the movie?
Director Jared Hess confirmed mini cameos by three creators: Mumbo Jumbo, DanTDM, and Aphmau. These are the named creator appearances supported by his account; avoid treating other possible likenesses or brief background details as confirmed cameos without evidence.

Hess also said actor Sebastian Hansen, who plays Henry, came up with a special Easter egg. Hess did not identify it. Unless a particular detail can be directly verified in the finished scene, its identity remains unknown; the director’s comment is not confirmation of any specific fan theory. Hess discussed the cameos and production choices in an interview with Minecraft.net.
How closely do the film’s builds follow Minecraft?
Hess said the team wanted the things it designed for the movie to be possible to make in the game: “Everything we designed for the film, we wanted to make sure that you could actually go and make in the game.” He cited Steve’s Lava Chicken Shack as an example of an idea the crew checked by building it in Minecraft. That gives viewers a useful way to look at the film’s structures and crafting setups: compare what is shown with the game’s building logic, rather than assuming every prop reproduces a standard in-game recipe.
This buildability goal is a production principle, not proof that every visible object is a named item or follows a precise recipe. When checking a detail, distinguish a recognizable game mechanic from a movie-specific design that simply uses Minecraft’s block-based visual language.

Which wider film references did the crew use?
Cinematographer Enrique Chediak described several movies as visual or communication references, while emphasizing that Minecraft was the primary reference. The comparisons below are the crew’s stated touchpoints, not claims that the film copies those movies.
| Reference | Aspect Chediak associated with it |
|---|---|
| Shaun of the Dead | Quick zooms |
| Barbie | Color and backlight |
| Harry Potter | The woodland mansion |
| Wonka | The night look |
Chediak said, “Our main reference was the game and its translation to the film world.” He also explained that the references were interpreted freely. A resemblance to one of these films can be discussed as a visual echo, but it should not be presented as a hidden Minecraft Easter egg or a direct reproduction. Chediak explained the cinematography references in an interview with StudioBinder.

Hess said Mumbo Jumbo designed a giant Piglin robot sequence: a Trojan-horse-like contraption powered by Redstone. The idea was storyboarded and had animatics, but it did not make it into the movie. Hess also mentioned booby traps that were cut because they did not fit the film.

These are behind-the-scenes concepts, not hidden scenes in the released cut. The Redstone-powered Piglin robot should not be listed as something viewers can spot on screen.
How can you check small details for yourself?
The official movie site lists the film as available digitally and in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Rewatching can help you inspect background appearances and visual details, but a detail’s presence alone does not establish who it depicts or what the filmmakers intended. The official site does not establish current retailer stock or regional digital availability.
