Rosa Mendes’s WWE career stretched across a decade, moving from a fan-turned-ringside character to manager, in-ring performer, reality-TV cast member and backstage interviewer. WWE framed her retirement in 2017 as the end of a decade with the company; Mendes said motherhood, new priorities and the demands of travel shaped her decision.
How Rosa Mendes entered WWE
Mendes entered the WWE Diva Search in 2006. In remarks reproduced by Wrestling Inc. in 2014, she said she finished fourth, received a contract and then trained for three and a half years before making her television debut. That long interval is central to the shape of her career: she was associated with WWE well before she became a regular on-screen performer. Wrestling Inc.’s 2014 excerpt of Mendes’s interview
From ringside fan to WWE performer
WWE dates Mendes’s first prominent ringside incident to the December 29, 2008 episode of Raw. In the storyline, she jumped the barricade to attack Melina while supporting Beth Phoenix. WWE’s later retirement retrospective describes the incident as the start of Mendes’s visibility in the company’s stories. WWE’s retirement retrospective
Her role then expanded beyond the ringside angle. WWE’s profile says she was offered an internship position with “Glamarella,” learned from Phoenix and Santino Marella, and moved into in-ring work. She also managed Primo & Epico during a WWE Tag Team Championship reign. Her career therefore included both performing and supporting other acts, rather than following a single path as a wrestler. The different roles in her WWE career
| Career phase | What the record establishes |
|---|---|
| Ringside storyline | WWE dates her prominent incident involving Melina to December 29, 2008, and connects the story to her support of Beth Phoenix. |
| Intern and manager | WWE says Mendes was offered an internship with “Glamarella” and later managed Primo & Epico. |
| In-ring performer | WWE’s profile describes her progression into ring work; Mendes said she trained for three and a half years before her TV debut. |
| Reality television | WWE identifies her as a cast member of Total Divas. |
| Backstage interviewer | WWE’s profile also lists her work as a SmackDown backstage interviewer. |
These roles help explain why a career retrospective of Mendes is broader than a match record. WWE’s profile presents her as moving among on-screen storylines, managing, wrestling, reality television and interviewing. The available sources establish that arc, but not a complete match-by-match history or an exact year-by-year account of brand changes.
Pregnancy and stepping away from the division
On August 6, 2015, WWE published Mendes’s pregnancy announcement. She said she would step away from the division and discussed a prenatal workout plan in the interview. The announcement marked a major change in her on-screen career before her eventual retirement. WWE’s 2015 pregnancy interview

Why did Rosa Mendes retire from WWE?
WWE published Mendes’s retirement interview on February 10, 2017, describing her departure as coming after a decade with the company. Mendes said becoming a mother and having different dreams influenced her decision. She also described how the demands of WWE travel could conflict with family life and business. Her explanation was personal, not a formal company statement about why she had lasted or left.
In the interview, Mendes said: “Realistically, being gone more than 300 days out of the year, it’s hard to be a mother and have your own business at the same time.” That figure is her description of the travel burden, not a verified count of her schedule in every year. She also spoke of wanting a different kind of legacy: “I want to create a legacy by teaching people about nutrition and how to take care of themselves.” WWE’s February 10, 2017 retirement interview

How long was Rosa Mendes in WWE?
WWE called it a decade-long tenure when announcing her retirement in 2017. Mendes’s own account places her entry into the Diva Search in 2006, while her television debut came after the training period she described in 2014. Those markers show why her time in WWE can be understood as longer than her visible run as a regular television character: she spent years training before that debut, then worked in several different on-screen capacities.
In a 2014 interview excerpt, Mendes attributed her longevity on the main roster to repeatedly changing her presentation and working hard. That is her self-assessment, not an independently measured explanation. Her career’s unusual length is better understood through its changing roles and extended development than through a single job description.
