Daeron Targaryen, known as Daeron the Drunken, is the eldest son of Maekar I and the older brother of Egg—the childhood name of Aegon Targaryen. In The Hedge Knight, Daeron’s drinking and a false account of Egg’s disappearance put the hedge knight Dunk under suspicion. Henry Ashton plays Daeron in the television adaptation A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Who is Daeron the Drunken?
Daeron is the eldest son of Prince Maekar Targaryen and Dyanna Dayne. His epithet, “the Drunken,” reflects the heavy drinking that shapes his part in The Hedge Knight, the Dunk and Egg story set in the world of Westeros.
Egg is Daeron’s younger brother: he is Aegon Targaryen, Maekar’s youngest son. The brothers’ family connection matters at Ashford, where Egg is traveling with Dunk.
What does Daeron do in The Hedge Knight?
After Egg leaves his care, Daeron is found drunk. When asked what happened, he claims that a robber knight took the boy. That account implicates Dunk and helps put him in danger. Daeron later apologizes and tells Dunk about a dream that has been troubling him.

What did Daeron dream about Dunk?
Daeron says he dreamed that Dunk survived while a great dead dragon fell on him. The image is prophetic in the book. Spoiler for the Trial of Seven: the dragon’s fall is connected to the death of Baelor Targaryen during the trial. The dream’s meaning is best understood in the context of the novella’s later events.
Who plays Daeron in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
Henry Ashton plays Daeron in the six-episode television adaptation, according to Sky’s official announcement. Sky’s release described the story as taking place roughly a century before Game of Thrones and gave 19 January 2026 as the UK launch date; that date is specific to the UK announcement, not a worldwide availability statement.
